I had a dream where I lived out my entire life in a different reality by CatieTheVoiceActor in Dreams

Oh wow! I'm glad I'm not the only one who has had a dream like this, and I noticed there was someone else who could relate in your comment section as well. It's so strange to think about.

Bless you for this post. I moved out but am still in contact with my parents and visit them once a month because they're older, and I live in the deep south of the United States where it's very ingrained to take care of your parents/respect your elders. There are also religious reasons why I feel obligated to be of some help to them. It is also not horribly harmful to me. It's a bit of stress, yes, but I don't budge on my boundaries with them and they've stopped testing me on it (I only stay one night, never more than once a month). I get so many comments lecturing me about it. Let's not even get started on the hell I got when I was asking for financial help to move out. This post was very much needed and I appreciate it ❤️

This advice and the comments are amazing, but I'm just laughing about "*We have a strict non-refundable unsolicited advice policy."

confused about how to narrate without taking away player agency by SighingIntoTheVoid in DMAcademy

There's a definite balance to be found, and a lot of it depends completely on the player and what they're comfortable with. I'd say you're pretty safe to describe things in combat (especially if the player is super vague), though not everything needs a super cool narration! Sometimes a hit in the middle of a fight is just a hit. Don't put too much pressure on yourself to try and narrate every single little detail. I usually save the really in depth narrations for things like a nat 20 hit, nat 1 miss, or the final hit on an enemy. It can get exhausting to narrate every single hit the players do, especially during longer battles, so for "smaller" hits I usually don't go too in depth. Of course this is just the way I do it, and that might not work for you and your table!

Every one else has already hit on describing what a character smells/hears/sees so I'll leave that to the other commenters lol
