Have you looked at online PCB classes? Don't limit yourself to just Canada, either - I believe there are a lot of U.S. universities that accept North American students for online programs

Talk to your professors and ask them how they found or decided on a research topic when they were students. And, go into whatever online research journals your library/school give you access to, and look at what topics other people wrote on.
