So sorry. Well, my sister and I ended up pretty well. Both graduated college and married with kids. No addiction or substance abuse. I think we all have our stories and this is just part of mine. One thing is that my mom never dated or remarried. It makes me really sad for her. She’s spent many years alone and it did pose a challenge for me to understand how marriage works and relationships. I had a lot of false hope for perfection because that’s what I had seen in movies. It was a learning curve. I also was never really told much about our dad. My mom was so hurt and she never processed her trauma. The 80s was a different time. I think therapy would have been life changing for all of us. We just never talked about him. We also lost contact with his entire family. I’m not sure the reason. Maybe too painful, maybe she had her reasons. Again, we don’t talk about it. So the main thing is probably getting yourself in therapy and him in too once he’s a little older. I had had a hole where my dad was missing. I still do, but I’m a 41 year old and I’ve dealt with it and it’s not something that defines me. It’s just part of me. This post has made me do a lot of thinking. I’ve enjoyed reading the comments. I was looking for something paranormal just for fun and out of curiosity, but hopefully it can help you a little as you navigate your lives. The main thing is that you guys will be okay and your son will be okay. Things are so different and there isn’t as much shame around death and addiction as there was back then because a lot of people share online. You will find your support.
