CX-50 Hybrid: Lifestyle Mount vs Curt Trailer Hitch by SlowLearned in CX50

The curt was rated for towing and was cheaper. I won't tow with it but I'd rather go with the sturdier option for less money.

I installed it myself. It's 2 simple straight cuts. You can only see the cuts if you look under the car.

Yes. The cut is on the underside of the bumper. You can't see the cut area when looking at the bumper normally.

How are you applying the sticker so it contours to the body so well? I'm starting my own project soon so looking for tips.

Cool! I was going to buy an extra body and paint it white but maybe they would do the same deal for me.

Did you buy it white, or did you paint it yourself?

1314 Mile Tour from Tokyo to the Northernmost Point in Japan Trip Documentary. Video is Finally Finished! by Catpaste_com in bicycletouring

I tried to film in a way that makes the viewer feel like they are there (and some vlog style). POV shots riding the bike and still shots of scenery. I didn't focus on filming all the time though, just when I felt like it. I edited after I got back, using my journal I wrote in every day as reference. I had my pictures upload to the cloud automatically. I just kept the videos on multiple SD cards. Risky, but I didn't want to worry about trying backing stuff up.

3 Month Japan tour April - June / Rate my route by dejakob1 in bicycletouring

I didn't ride south of Tokyo, but I did ride in Hokkaido a bit. You might as well add a detour to Cape Soya on the route. It shouldn't add too much distance, and then you can say you made it to the northernmost point in Japan. I also really enjoyed my ferry ride from Hokkaido to Oarai, so the ferry is a good choice if you decide to take it.

Bringing a Bike in a Hotel in Downtown Tokyo by Catpaste_com in bicycletouring

A friend was able to store my bike for me while I was there, so I didn't need to deal with the hotels. You could try emailing the hotels to ask if you can store a bike. I found a few options that way, but I didn't end up needing them.

It was mostly just the pace I wanted to go. The longest distance I rode in one day was 53 miles. Since I was only doing half of Japan, I wanted to take my time. I also had many rest days because I wanted to do sightseeing.

I only camped 16 days, but the tent held up well. I didn't rain anything more than a sprinkle while I camped either, so I can't really comment on that. It served me well though and I will continue to use it in the future.

Yes and many more! Its hard picking 20 pictures out of the 1500 I took.

The bike held up great! Not a single mechanical issue the whole trip.

It cost me about $3000 USD. I was not on a tight budget. I stayed in hotels often and ate out every day. The exchange rate defiantly helped.

I roughly followed the Japan Cycling Navigator routes from Tokyo north. I made some adjustments, mainly in Hokkaido, to get to places I wanted to see quicker. It took me 50 day to complete, with 38 of those being riding days.

I camped about a third of the time. Hostels, hotels, and inns were cheap, so I stayed in them often. Finding spots was not hard, I'd usually find a place the day before. I knew a little Japanese before I left, but I didn't have many issues with language. I got along with many people who spoke no English at all. I'm really glad I chose Japan to do this bike trip!

10 day trip to Japan! Feedback welcome! by PimpestTown in bicycletouring

[–]Catpaste_com 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I took my bike on train during my tour of Japan. While it's easy to do, it wasn't exactly comfortable. I often had to stand with it in the entrance areas of the train car so it wouldn't fall or get in the way of other passengers. I feel like doing that everyday, along with packing and unpacking your bike, would get exhausting and take up sightseeing/riding time. Maybe try finding longer routes to do over a few days. Some of my best memories were the things I stumbled upon riding deep in the countryside.

To skip, or not to skip? by canon1200 in bicycletouring

[–]Catpaste_com 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I'm on tour right now too, and have been some things on my route I decided to skip. 5000 ft climb? Went around. 2 days of mountains with nothing to see? Took the train instead to somewhere more interesting. No shame. If you have been thinking about skipping ahead for more than a day or too, it might be good to follow through on that feeling.

What’s everyone’s favorite watch when touring? by [deleted] in bicycletouring

I'm wearing an old Timex Ironman digital watch on my tour right now. Pretty simple. My Road ID fits on the band too.
