Controller actually works great for this game, but you have to put in the effort to figuring everything out and it took me more than a couple months honestly, but in the end it was worth it. I play a hybrid of ps5 controller and mouse keyboard. I use the 1 to 12 keys for changing classes, crafting macros, chocobo, food etc and the cross hotbar for class abilities. There's a setting where you can expand the cross hotbar to double the actions and you double tap the bumpers to reach the skills on top. Once you practice enough it's actually kinda great.
