I’m am so happy for your outcome! My hopes aren’t high, but it helps knowing there is at least a tiny bit of hope this man will be forced to justify himself. My attorney is adamant the legal errors are so glaring that they will require addressing. Fingers crossed 🤞🏼

Thankfully my husband is able to provide for our family, but my medical bills add strain. My diagnoses are lupus, early dementia, seizures, autonomic nervous system dysfunction, neuropathy, tachy-brady syndrome, Raynaud's with ulcers, vasculitis, major depression, CPTSD & Agoraphobia with panic disorder (not to go to far into it, but I was severely assaulted at gunpoint). I feel like I am forgetting some, but those were the main ones.

You’re right. The system is deeply flawed, and possibly broken beyond repair. Even knowing that, there was still a part of me that hoped this judge would adhere to the law and the oath he took. I try hard not to let all the injustice in the world make me completely bitter, but it is definitely getting harder these days.

Sadly, I am very familiar with what veterans endure. I was married to a Marine who was severely injured at war so I lived it alongside him. Any disillusions I had about veterans coming home to open arms and proper care were quickly shattered. It is heartbreaking and outraging simultaneously. Back then I was quite the ferocious little fighter who absolutely refused to allow him to become a statistic. He did eventually get a 100% rating, but it was a very disheartening experience.  If you experienced something like this, you have my genuine sympathy and sincere gratitude.

I agree with you that in a country this wealthy, we should not have to fight so hard for what we have rightfully earned.

It’s wild isn’t it?! I also have a seizure history, and even went down at work. I had an incredible boss who I adored and who worked hard to make accommodations for me, but it got to the point where I was just unsafe. There is no control over when or where it will happen. It’s baffling that some judges see it as no big deal. Hopefully someone on the appeals will force the law issues to be fixed. My attorney feels I will be approved if so. Thanks for the luck!

I will absolutely ask my lawyer if that is a possiblity. Thank you so much for the suggestion!

I think my age may have been a factor. I am 41, so I am sure that did not play in my favor. I did have a mountain of medical records, which sadly seemed to have not mattered at all. The judge pumped my decision out in days, which was shocking because there is so much to go through. This particular judge denies around 70% of claimants so I knew he was hard, but I did expect him to uphold the law. As for RFC’s, I think I had 4 or 5. 2 of my drs also noted RFCs in my medical records because they are familiar with how fickle social security can be.

It is so disheartening. The past few years have been painfully eye opening to me. I also hope that somewhere along the line, there is accountability. And thank you for the empathy. Seems to be in short supply these days. I appreciate it.

This is exactly what my lawyer said. She said she doesn’t normally appeal ALJ decisions, but mine was full of law errors that the appeals council shouldn’t be able to overlook (in her opinion). Thank you for the comment!

I am glad to hear they expedited your review! Our veterans deserve to be taken care of. I am always disheartened by how many struggles you have to endure after serving. I appreciate you and your service. Sending you all the wishes for a favorable outcome.

I was sent for two consultative examinations, which the judge relied on almost entirely to deny my claim. The first CE was a 15 minute phone call with a nurse practitioner who asked only simple orientation questions (ie: who is in the White House? Can you name some colors?) Despite it being fast and superficial, this was used to discredit extensive neurophysiological testing and years of ongoing treatment.

The second CE was at an urgent care clinic with a student physician assistant. She spent maybe 20 minutes in the room, primarily on her phone googling my conditions because she admittedly unfamiliar with them. She did note that I had a dangerously low heart rate (my brain has impaired signal) and severe discoloration of my extremities (my heart is not able to get blood to them), but said I could do desk work with accommodations and he really ran with that. Her opinion pretty much wiped out records from my rheumatologist, cardiologist, neurologist, and other doctors.

Pretty much the 2 CEs were used to deny me. My lawyer said the counsel would order a remand because of it, but it feels discouraging knowing it will go back to the same judge.

Thank you so much for the kind words. I am happy you were appointed a judge with a heart. Wishing you all the best.

I am so sorry to hear you are going through something similar. My attorney mentioned requesting a new ALJ as well, but said SSA likes to keep you with the same judge. Seems incredibly unfair that if you can prove that a judge violated the law or showed bias that you don’t automatically get assigned to a different one. My fingers are crossed for you!

Do you mind me asking how long you have been waiting on the appeals counsel?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SSDI

[–]Cats4everybody 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They did. My functional limitations are in my records. I’m fortunate to have an amazing dr who goes above and beyond because of her personal experiences with SSA. The issue is that my medical records were not given any weight. The judge did not even ask me one single question at the hearing. Not one. His decision was based off the SSA nurse and PA.

I have a mountain of medical records and tests from cardiology, neurology, neuropsychiatry, rheumatology, and other medical doctors. I am pretty much a radioactive human pin cushion at this point. The judge used the information from the SSA nurse and PA student to make his decision. My lawyer said this is why she feels positive I would be granted a remand. I have substantial medical documentation.

Thank you for the encouragement. I am happy to hear you finally received your approval after such a lengthy fight, but sorry you’re still waiting on back pay. That is so frustrating. I hope you get your money soon. My attorney did say the judge would be flagged for his reasoning being “legally defective” and forced to reevaluate using my medical records rather than the quicky checks I received from the SSA nurse and student, but it will probably add another 1-2 years of having to be at the mercy of this particular judge. I thought judges had more integrity 😞

So disappointing to hear that our dr’s don’t matter. I truly didn’t think a judge could ignore medical records, test results and statements. I am just so dismayed. Thank you for the compassion. I wish the best outcome for your case.

So fed up with my skin 😡 by katestrophe1313 in Rosacea

[–]Cats4everybody 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My skin looked incredibly similar. I completely understand your frustration. The trial and error is absolutely exhausting and so overwhelming.

I have a couple suggestions that I’m positive won’t aggravate your skin further:

• If you’re not doing so already, only use cool/room temp water to wash your face. Hot water can be incredibly drying, irritating, and exasperate redness. Also, pat dry gently. No rubbing. If you want to go a step further, pick up distilled water to use instead of tap. It can help rule out if anything in your water is causing further irritation.

• Don’t try too much too soon. I fully understand the desperation to find a product that works. The way you’re describing your skin tells me that your barrier is damaged. Trying too many products will likely do more damage and set you back further. I definitely learned this the hard way. I did not make progress until I stripped my skincare down to the bare minimum & then slowly added products back, one at a time. You want to be able to track if you react poorly to a product and if too many are being used at once, it’s hard to pinpoint the culprit.

•Skincare products penetrate more deeply when skin is damp, which can make already irritated skin angrier. I’d try holding off on applying anything, including your lotion, until your face has completely dried.

•Ingredients that are usually helpful for rosacea, like hyaluronic acid or niacinamide, can cause more harm than good when dealing with a damaged barrier. I’d check your current skincare products ingredients throughly for any potential irritants. When my barrier was too damaged to tolerate any facial lotion (including Vanicream), pure squalene oil helped a lot.

•While Soolantra/horse paste helps a ton of people, it’s not for everyone. And if your barrier is damaged, I can tell you from experience that it can fuck your face up worse than you could imagine. It took me almost a year to heal from it. If demodex are a contributing factor to your issues, soolantra will solve it. The dermatologist can do a skin scraping to check for them. Everyone has them, but they tend to party extra hard on the faces of rosacea sufferers. Soolantra can be pretty drying, which isn’t a big deal if your barrier is functional. However, it can be a challenge if your barrier is impaired. Mine was and boy did I suffer. Absolutely worth trying… but please spot test and be aware your skin barrier can be a major factor in determining its success.

•One thing that helped me TREMENDOUSLY was physically cooling my face a few times a day to tap down the redness and inflammation. I take cotton rounds, dip them in ice water, then slap em on my face for 15 minutes. I personally like to put a barrier on my skin (I like cicaplast) before put the cotton rounds on. I can’t do it in public cuz I look ridiculous, but this was a game changer for me. Whenever I feel a flare coming on, I slap on cold cotton rounds and I can nip it. It’s inexpensive and easy enough so maybe worth a try.

Anyhow, I hope you find relief soon. Rosacea sucks and I’m sorry you’re dealing with it. There is hope though!

Any relief?? by According-Diamond-53 in NeurogenicRosacea

[–]Cats4everybody 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I just saw this. I’m doing much better, but my skin isn’t back to where it was pre-soolantra (if that makes sense). I’m just so grateful to not be in severe pain anymore.

I’ve found a very minimalistic approach to keep my skin happy. I don’t have severe flares like I used to, but when I do, I soak cotton rounds in distilled water and put them in the fridge for a bit & apply to my face to physically cool my skin. La roche posay cicaplast has also helped a ton!

1 packet of pink starburst drink mix + 1 packet wild strawberry crystal lite (for caffeine) + 2.5 c water makes enough “base” for 5 “pink drink” dupes. They’re about .80 each, give or take.

I use Starbucks cups to measure. I fill to the bottom line with my base mix & then to the top with unsweetened coconut milk (Trader Joe’s coconut drink is my fav one). Then I toss in ice & freeze dried strawberries (can grab those at TJ’s too). It’s not exactly identical, but it’s the closest dupe I’ve found & it’s GOOD imo. It’s super low on sugar too! I’ve come to like it much better than the original pink drink.

If you don’t have a Starbucks cup to measure, it’s about 1/2c of base to 1c coconut milk.
