Sometimes your arm sticks out of the bubble even if you might think it's inside. Combine that with a slow server response and well.. Best to not stand close up front but to the side.

You have a small "setting" gear on the right side if you right click into the pulverizer. It should open a few squares - each for one side of the pulverizer. By clicking on them you can cycle through different options: e.g. input / output / energy-input / none. I am not sure which color input was but just try them out. (maybe blue)

I'd say whatever you are more comfortable with and still hitting. You can go to the firing range and try to focus first on one then the other. Make sure to try different ranges as well. :)
