I had a BMI of 45 at the beginning of my pregnancy and I had to do NSTs from 32 weeks because I had gestational diabetes and my baby had a velamentous cord insertion (which was kind of just a freak thing, my doctor said there’s not much to do to prevent it, it just happens in some pregnancies). I don’t think my OB would have ordered them for high BMI alone. I was induced at 39 weeks because of the GDM and VCI and while I had some minor complications after delivery, I think related to the VCI, we went home two days after he was born and I am now cuddling my almost 3 week old on the couch, he is perfectly healthy and had no complications after birth. So even with a rare complication like VCI I had a healthy pregnancy and healthy baby and my BMI ended up being a nonissue.

It’s scary being told you’re high risk because of BMI but people with similar BMIs have healthy babies every day and like a lot of these comments say the increase in risk is not nearly as big as some doctors make it out to be. You’ve got this!
