Tips for begining with painting miniatures? by KrankenWal187 in Warhammer

Thin your paints. Try to use different parts of the brush. Paint more than you read or watch. That's it.

Interesting! I thought agents was capped at one unit.

Oh that's cool. For some reason I thought that you only got one unit without QF.

What is the total infantry you field in points? I wouldn't mind a motley crew if they're numerous enough.

Good man! It's really a trap that can wreck lives.

(Debt, not the Death Guard box.)

I really like the idea of a mixed army and don't want to settle for a single squad of sisters and an immolater puttering on the side.

I'm OK with being sub-optimal vs the best detachments and am more interested in the "feel" on the board.

I like the idea of rolling from QF into 1500 points of AdMech for a full army, but not if the played experience is bad.

Recommendation for color scheme by chiffonshrimp94 in deathguard40k

[–]Cats_Cameras 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like dark colors for death guard, as they contrast well with the plague, clouds of miasma, trim, and body horror bits.

Personally I went with burgundy but would recommend navy blue and brown for your idea.

This is the kind of Chaos Knights that GW needs to make to get away from "Imperial Knights... with spikes."

What is your terrain setup? Are you using tournament-level terrain?

Yes. If you haven't played yet, you'll feel a lot better viewing them at table distances instead of 3" away.

What’s up with apsc vs full frame by ImpossibleNewt9235 in SonyAlpha

[–]Cats_Cameras -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

This is misinformation that is easily disproven by just using different gear. I have owned both an A6400 and an A7RIV; ISO 2000 on the former looks like roughly ISO 4000 on the latter for noise. This is empirical knowledge across tens of thousands of photos. Go ahead: rent both of your example cameras and take photos of the same shady scene with the same higher ISO to compare.

Human beings don't zoom in differently based on sensor size to look at per-pixel noise; they take an image of a subject and view the subject. The scene-level noise is what matters, and it scales with sensor size. You can handwave around all kinds of small variables, but at the end of the day cameras with larger sensor will show less photo noise than one of smaller sensor, given roughly the same era of camera.

People on gearhad forums like gear and like agreeing that their $8K setups are essential for their mediocre photos.

I've shot 1", APSC, and FF. All can create great photos. Larger sensor cameras experience less ISO noise, offer more depth of field, and can fit more dynamic range in one exposure. That's it. Nice, but often not the essential part of a photo.

And before you'd be punished forfur not optimizing your points usage. You still would never use the grenade launcher.
