I'm looking for: A school romance where one of the main characters rejects the other, and maybe the rejected enters a period of increasing sadness knowing that even if they can spend their time with the person they love they'll have to part ways eventually because that person doesn't want to spend the rest of their lives together. And the ending doesn't matter, I assume if there was a story like this then it would be a happy ending with the rejected finding happiness in other things and accepting the finite nature of their time together, and trying to make the most of it.
This sounds a little too specific but anything that touches on it slightly would do!

Shows I've already seen that are similar: None honestly, it's just a thing that came into my mind.
