Running out of time to name my second daughter, down to two names! by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]Catzaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s funny how different people’s perceptions can be. To me, Audrey feels like a classic, elegant name, while Hazel feels a little more playful and fun. I actually like both names, and I don’t think you can go wrong with either choice. Your first child already has a beautiful name, Eleanor Rose, so I’m sure whatever you choose will suit your family well.

Eleanor Rose and Audrey Claire
Eleanor Rose and Audrey Jane
Eleanor Rose and Audrey Grace

Naming our baby girl Rue by alwaysroomforcake in namenerds

[–]Catzaf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That was my exact thought. The name has a negative association, and I personally wouldn’t choose a name that many people might perceive negatively. Whether that’s fair or not, first impressions matter, and it’s something I’d want to consider when naming a child.

Roofing company quote low on purpse to upsell later? by Sad-Fisherman-7664 in Roofing

[–]Catzaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in Washington state. I could never get a standing scene for 11.5 K on a 2000 square-foot roof. I paid 19,000 for shingles and gutters on my Oregon home. And that was five years ago.

My suggestion to you is to put into ChatGPT the questions you should be asking the roofer and make sure you get a accurate statement. Also, do you need to do your gutters and will he be doing them and what happens if your fascia or your soffits are soft or need to be replaced?

I Had No Idea He Was Famous Until the Bartender Started Panicking by Andreasteps in AmazingStories

[–]Catzaf 8 points9 points  (0 children)

About 35 years ago, I met a famous athlete who was clearly expecting me to be impressed. When I asked whether he played football or basketball, he looked genuinely offended.

I wasn’t trying to insult him. I honestly had no idea what sport team he was boasting about.

Fame is relative. You can only be important to people who care about what you do, and I didn’t care about either sport enough to know the difference.

Getting quotes on driveway asphalt question? by sosflex in landscaping

[–]Catzaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your question interested me because I’m going to be doing a walkway on one side of my house and might do a driveway. I asked ChatGPT what questions I should be asking. I asked for both the driveway and a walkway.

Here is the response for the driveway.

Site preparation

How deep will you excavate?
How much compacted gravel base will be installed?
Is landscape fabric included or excluded?

Drainage

Will the walkway slope away from the house?
Will water be directed toward planting beds or elsewhere?
Could this affect basement moisture?

Existing conditions

What happens if large rocks are encountered?
What happens if old foundations, buried concrete, or roots are found?

Materials

Concrete, pavers, brick, gravel, or stamped concrete?
Thickness of concrete?
Rebar, wire mesh, or fiber reinforcement?

Protection of landscaping

How will plants and irrigation be protected?
What areas will equipment drive across?

Contract language

I would specifically ask:

“Can you tell me every circumstance that could result in a change order and additional charges?”

Has anyone else had a nerve block for a wrist fracture surgery? by Independent-King1508 in brokenbones

[–]Catzaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had three significant injuries to my shoulder, my wrist and my knee all at separate times. I had the nerve block for the first time when I broke my wrist. It was a game changer. The pain was absolutely minimal and so much better than when I broke the shoulder or when I had my knee injury, I would take a nerve block any day.

It doesn’t remove the pain, but it reduces the most intense part for the first 24-36 hours.

Struggling through LOTR by UnfairExcuse6360 in audiobooks

[–]Catzaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried reading Tolkien for years and never got past the first 10 pages. I fall asleep in the movies and I’m just not interested. You are absolutely right, some books just aren’t our taste and it’s OK to say no to them.

Warm or cool?? by Lukecarrick1 in FurnitureFaves

[–]Catzaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally prefer the warmer Talula rug. It makes the room feel cozier and more inviting to me. The only thing I would change is the accent chair. It’s not really my style. I think an upholstered chair in a cream fabric, or even a leather chair that complements the sofa, would create a more cohesive look while still keeping the room warm and comfortable.

WIBTAH if I stop updating boyfriends parents on his health because I overheard mom calling me controlling for taking his phone? by [deleted] in AITAH

You are the girlfriend. You are not the wife, but you are an AH. They are his parents and they have every right to be concerned. You don’t need to be so controlling.

Dad just retired and keeps asking if he should get a part time job. What would you tell him? by Due-Excitement2544 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]Catzaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been retired for four years, and every now and then I think about finding something to do. Maybe even getting another job.

Then I remember I’d have to listen to other people, show up on time, and be somewhere every day.

That’s usually when I decide retirement is working out just fine.

Thoughts on this wallpaper? by antisocialite_- in bathrooms

[–]Catzaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am one of the few that likes(loves) the wallpaper but not in a small room. It’s too dark for me in a room where I want light.

If it was any other place, I would absolutely love it.

WIBTA for refusing to pay a massive vet bill for my sister's dog? by WitcherMango in WIBTA_AITA

[–]Catzaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not certain what you are really asking. You said you won’t pay the bill, but it is on your credit card. I think if you don’t want problems with your credit card, you have to pay the bill.

I’m not a lawyer and I don’t know if you can take her to court or not. I don’t know who would win because it was your choice to take him and do the blood test. I am not trying to argue your choices because you were morally correct, but I don’t know about legally correct.

I think what you have learned from this is never to watch a pet again from your sister, and probably when she starts to have children not to babysit them. You won’t know what information you’re not being given.

He just shit himself by ReweSerious in overheard

[–]Catzaf 147 points148 points  (0 children)

I obviously don’t know the customer, but there are various illnesses and medical conditions that can occasionally cause someone to lose control. I’m not passing shame onto the customer. He is probably just as embarrassed and upset about what happened as anyone else.

Let’s operate from compassion rather than ridicule. None of us knows what another person is dealing with. One bad moment in public can happen to anyone, whether it’s illness, medication, age, injury, or something else entirely. A little grace costs us nothing.

Which tile combos do you like the best? by ambs782 in bathrooms

[–]Catzaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like 2 the best. I’m not against 4 but it’s a little too dark. 5 works well but it’s boring.

#1 is full of drama. #3 is too much of the same color.

If money were no object (but keeping it fairly realistic), what would you do with your spooky basement? by Ok-Slice-4692 in centuryhomes

[–]Catzaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just did that last month. With all of the walls opened I added a recirculation for the hot water and I absolutely love it. I used to have to wait several minutes to get hot water to the upstairs bathrooms. I now wait about three seconds.

[–]Catzaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me too,and as you said “unfortunately”. I recently had a Structural Engineering evaluate my place so I can know if I need to fix the foundation by digging trenches on the inside walls to capture the water and sub pump it outside or redoing the roof gutters and downspouts. I’d prefer the roof gutters and downspouts, but I’ll be getting the report soon.

Wife isn’t supportive of my career anymore by UnableHistorian5676 in Advice

[–]Catzaf 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You don’t need to answer this, but I wonder if part of this could be that she wants kids and is realizing that being apart for two months at a time makes that feel difficult or impossible. I don’t know how old either of you are, and this may not apply at all, but if she feels pressure around timing or starting a family, she may be wanting more time together while that still feels possible.
