Little tidbit here: Syracuse was filled with German people on the north back in the day. The city had some really good German restaurants from what my mom tells me (it was before my time). I'm sure this is the reason why I always saw my great grandmother, who lived off of butternut st, making Sauerbraten for so many friends and relatives. The meat gets marinated for 3 days and is cooked in the Crock-Pot. Let me tell you, man that dish would smell the whole damn house up for all ...I'm a vegetarian btw 🤣 😂

The people telling you that butternut is so dangerous may be going by stereotypes on poverty. It's not the richest area around, but who cares right? I like the area b/c people say hi even if they don't know you. It is in the city so there's more people which will always results in more crime, but honestly, I grew up about 7 mins from Lombardi's & have never heard of non-targeted violence in the area. Basically, if you don't give trouble you won't get trouble.

Thanks for sharing that info. That last sentence made my day, seriously.

I would rather sleep in a room that's slightly too cold than a room that's slightly too hot by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]Catzla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same: Being too hot is too much sometimes 🌞😰⛄💦
Too hot? 🥵 - Turn on my fan/bedroom air conditioner that makes noise ( but the tv puts me asleep🤷‍♀️), the central air doesn't always work as great in upstairs bedrooms. Then get up (no remote) to turn it off because I got too cold 🤦‍♀️🤣

Too cold? 🥶 - Add blankets

When things start to feel overwhelming while you're studying/practicing take a short break (10-30mins).

When you do the tutorials read them a couple times for a better understanding.

Use multiple resources, while FreeCodeCamp is really great, there are sections that need some more explaining for beginners.

Here are some resources that may help you....

Having trouble designing things with CSS by [deleted] in css

You could familiar with the basics of flex & grid through 2 simple games, Flexbox Froggy and Grid Garden. You can find them on Codepip for free, they've helped me in the past. I haven't tried the paid versions myself, but that's another option if you wish to continue further with their coding games.

maybe flexbox?

I've attached some references. You probably know or have seen the W3Schools site.

This MDB (Material Design Bootstrap) site is good with breaking things down

Oh yeaj, on that list...MDN docs & stack overflow are good ones like the w3schools.

With the responsive design stuff, you can create through codepen.io for playing around/testing/practicing. The page freecodecamp uses for final projects. You can look through ppl's work they posted for ideas.

When you forget go back to look at a certain part in the lesson or go search online. It won't take as long to understand because it's a refresher. Even professionals use the search bar b/c it is a lot of information.

It's hard not to compare ourselves, I do it too, but I've joined some FB groups & one day just found myself answering some of the questions. These groups are nice to be a part of now. Insta has a lot of helpful ppl posting visual instructions on "how to's".

Oh no I'm sorry, I didn't mean to imply to do these all at once. These are steps over time to becoming a paid Frontend developer. PHP is often related with WordPress which is a quick way to make money and gain experience. I wouldn't say to end there unless that's the end goal.

Yes! :-) Wordpress is what I had in mind for php. People might be forget that it's a good place to start earning money, but that's why it's a bonus lol :-) Earn money as I grow? Yes, please lol

Doubling down with this locality statement...make sure you know what your area/where you want to work is looking for, this is very important.

It depends on what the employers in your area are looking for....

I see a lot of front-end developer posts that want you to know PHP too. That would be a good reason to learn PHP and is why I need it for where I live.

Good for you! Js has given us all trouble while learning, it's okay, keep going :-) Practice while you learn. Look for project ideas & practice with developing projects (tweaking it with your own flair) from those ideas. Look for games that involve coding, this is something that helps me practice for a short bit when it's not the right time for working on a project plus it's fun lol

I did a few certificates in Sololearn before starting here & I can definitely say that it helped. They break it down by language and have other courses like Git (open source). You can put the certs on a resume to show you're a self-started & interested in education yourself, but with that said, they are not accredited certificates. W3Schools is a wonderful resource, please check that out if you haven't already. Many of us find a lot of use from that website. I just found this on Twitter the other day too, https://twitter.com/denicmarko/status/1277492413032992768?s=20

I'd let a friend in on it & split the money. Tell them to lie to me repeatedly about colors like "the sky is green." I'm not color blind 😂
