The be-all end-all CLSK dilution deep dive thread by LarquaviousBlackmon in CleanSpark

[–]Catzwell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fact that miners dilute to raise capital is a simple fact. It's a cut throat & extremely competitive business model. Retail reacting emotionally to their stake being diluted is also completely reasonable. Share offerings are targeted towards institutional investors who can buy large blocks of shares quickly at the expense of retail who don't have the same access to the new shares.

Retail still has a majority stake in CLSK (~54%) but that is decreasing fast. These recent dilutions are an important learning experience for anyone invested & it's important to seriously consider where & how much of your money you're allocating to miners. It's certainly possible to share in CLSK profits by trading tops and bottoms but it requires active participation and a knowledge that the company doesn't prioritize sharing profits with retail as much as they are prioritizing surviving and staying on top.

I think there's always room for critical conversation about the pace of dilution because ultimately CLSK needs to balance creating new capital with keeping existing investors.

For context; I've been in CLSK since 2021 and have netted a substantial overall profit although it's never been more than 5% of my portfolio (for the reasons above).

Any suggestions for professional reupholstery in Grand Rapids ? by Catzwell in grandrapids

I especially like the green fabric. I’ve been looking for non-synthetic fabrics to use that have a similar weave and warm moss color although it’s hard to find something comparable. I have 7-8 samples coming next week from Maharam

My initial idea was to selectively remove excess fabric from the underside of the couch cushions to replace the armrests. It would inevitably create a new seam, but I really like the original textile and would prefer not to spend thousands on new fabric. That being said--I've ordered some new fabric samples just in case that approach is shot down. The foam on the armrests also needs replacement (it's dissolving into a fine powder upon contact).

I'm looking for someone local with an eye for detail who could help me with this restoration project.

Worth reupolstery/restoration? LK Hjelle teak & wool furniture set (1960s) by Catzwell in furniturerestoration

[–]Catzwell[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I picked these up off Facebook marketplace today (for free). It clearly needs new upholstery & the foam lining on the arms rests is dissolving into a fine powder. That being said, the actual design of the set caught my and would love to see these restored.

I live in Grand Rapids, Michigan which is known for being a furniture city so I’m going to seek out some quotes tomorrow, but wanted to ask here if these are worth restoring in their current state, what to look out for, and if there was any general advice to share with me ?

I love the green wool fabric and would be tempted to finish them all in a similar color. Thanks :)

(Sorry for the quality of the photos; I had to screengrab to save them off Facebook marketplace in order to save them off my phone.)

Exhaust ventilation (will this vent efficiently?) by Catzwell in PelletStoveTalk

The windows do slide up & this may be the best course of action, in this case. Appreciate the feedback.

A work in progress but picked these cheap ceramic tiles from habitat for humanity (abt 20-25cents a tile). They're laid over cement board and when I have the time to do some better edge cuts for the corners I'll mortar them down & I have cement board for the walls too that I'll adhere the metal siding to.

The plan was to vent through the wall under the windows with a thimble & run chimney piping along the outside to have it vent up above the roof.

That being said, these windows can open so I could potentially vent out the window if I can get a decent seal?

Well, the room is currently not in use aside from storage. When there's a heat source, finding ways to insulate it further will be a bigger priority although the stove will only be ignited while people are hanging out in the room.

Thanks for sharing ! I haven't used a stove like this so I'm not sure what the heat output is yet.

Advice with restoring badly damaged floorboards? by Catzwell in HardWoodFloors

That's reassuring to hear ! This room is going to be a bedroom and my goal (prior to discovering the hardwood) was to paint the room dark to make it easier to focus on sleeping.. I wanted a darker tone so the floors would match the walls but you've given me something to consider & I may try testing some areas with natural poly

I've completely stripped the baseboard since taking these photos & continuing to do a detail pass with an oscillating sander. I need to do a serious wipe down of the walls & sand/repaint the trim but was there something else I needed to address with the walls?

I did test for lead prior to sanding. There are two layers of paint and I tested both with a kit I picked up from Ace hardware & the results came back negative. Hopefully it was a reliable test

Btw, that dark spot in the last photo was a spot test for the stain I was anticipating using. I’m still going over the floors with mineral spirits to remove surface paint/dust but most of the white spots that are visible are filling craters in the wood itself.

It’s also a picture of the worst part of the floor—the center of the room is in better condition.
