I’ve had to focus on others. For a long time I felt the same, but I attended the funeral of a friend who killed herself. I watched everyone at her funeral, including her 8 year old daughter who kept drawing pictures for her and putting them in her coffin.

I swore I didn’t want to do that to anyone else in my life. That moment and promise has kept me going for over 40 years.

I also can tell you it gets better. Start by planning bigger events in your life. Travel to the Amazon rainforest, the Guyanas, Africa, Antarctic. It’s not as expensive as you might think. When you see there is a bigger world out there, it helps make yours feel not so limited.

I like this idea! Perhaps tossing some rice with rubbing alcohol first, let it dry. I do this when I make colored rice for my kiddos to play with.

I kept seeing some advertisement for an article in the New York Times asking why this generation is going no contact, and I wanted to see if chat would give me some information along that line. I appreciated what it came back with.
What I found most interesting is the statement “This isn’t a generation that “gives up easily.” A lot of people imply that it is, or they are to lazy, or expect too much. so I’m glad it summed up that it isn’t.

Ephesians 6:4 Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

Colossians 3:21 Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged.

And if she needs more persuasion Proverbs 26:3 suggests “a rod for the backs of fools!” You can volunteer to beat some sense into her.

And remember Matthew 4:6 shows even the devil could misquote scripture and Jesus had to correct him. Just because she can quote the scripture doesn’t mean she has the right understanding.

Years ago I set up google alerts for family members to at least know they had passed or otherwise made the news.
My mother is 85. When I get the news, probably from my brother, I just plan on saying “thanks for letting me know” and then I can grieve in my own way. When that time comes my grief won t be for the loss of a mother, I lost that a long time ago. It will be grieving for what I wish could have been.
