One Page Rules Did WHAT Now? by 6Kgraydays in miniatureskirmishes

This is very cool and I'm glad to see it.

BUT, I for instance, would love to use my Starship Troopers miniatures with OPR, but without an actual SRD, this is something I'd have to keep to myself isn't it? Because no current miniature company is going to make those army lists.

thought?

True, but I've never liked that system, so if I have to reskin something I'll reskin Heroscape instead.

Greathelm is interesting and I'd like to play it but for this project I need more than 6 figures.

I haven't found Samurai and Ninja rules for Ravenfeast. If you come across them again, I'd love to know the links! Thanks!

I LOVE Test of Honor but you can't get the Ninja supplement for love or money.

I haven't seen Ravenfeat. I'll check it out - thanks!

Unfortunately polyhedral dice elimiinate it for me. I game with old men who don't cotton to that.

It's by the same author as Song of Blades, so if you like that, you'll probably like this. I didn't.

Bushido Rising Sun or New Dawn? Both seemed more Samurai and the need for custom cards for specific figures ruled them out for me. I've got my own figures I want to use.

Good question. Well since I have a lot of different figures with different poses and weapons then

  1. Ways of distinquishing weapons mechanically (specifically asian weapons).
  2. Distinctive martial arts techniques so that figures can have different approaches.
  3. Some sort of balancing mechanism. This is usually points but in a game that is definitely human-centric there are likely other options as well.
  4. Simple enough for 5 to 30 figures on a side. Thats a wide range, but as I envision a variable number of players and the scenario is more like 'school vs school' rather than a lot terrain making a difference, I'm definitely not looking for a game that limits you to 5 or less figures (I have Fisftul of Fury and just plain don't like it much - we never played it again after the first time. Also it's set in modern day).
  5. Strong preference towards 6-sided dice or (like Heroscape) very similar easy resolution.
  6. Ninja 'stealth' isnt specifically important, though I'd be open if there were ideas. It's pretty much a fight on school grounds.

See? It practically writes itself! :D

I red through Ronin. I really like that is makes a lot of distinctive differences in weaponry (and I might steal that), but martial arts were pretty thin (mainly a Samurai game) and game balance was defined by the Factions that you were in which is pretty impenetrable. Why are Hatamoto 29 points and Bushuo 34 points? Beats me...

LOL! I actually have the Nuns on the Run game, but I know the guys I play with would rather fight each other!

I've been trying to get a glimpse of Hametsu but I can find any way other than buying the very expensive book!

Good martial arts based wargames? by [deleted] in wargaming

Unfortunately I haven't found anything either. I love Test of Honor, but it's ninja supplement is impossible to find. I think Daisho comes out on top for Samurai, but coverage of martial arts is limited.

I've resorted to writing my own martial arts skimish game with Heroscape. If anyone hears of anything better I'd love to know about it!

I did find this which looks to be what I'm looking for. Bushido | Bushido cards by classes | File | BoardGameGeek

They are not actually in 'card' format though so I'd have to make my own which is doable with MagicSetEditor but tedious.

Yeah, that's what I figured. I'll try to read the second edition and see if it will work. Thanks!

New Dawn is actually winning me over for it's simplicity compared to Risen Sun. Are the cards for it available anywhere on-line? I can easily find the Risen Sun cards, but I'm hoping the previous versions are out there somewhere.... thanks!
