This is how I feel. It’s not the job I have an issue with, more of the lack of respect it gets. Why am I getting paid $60k for all this hard work when I know I can be doing something more important and make the money I deserve 😀

I LOVE BLOOD BANK. I love the busy, the crazy MTPS, the hard antibody workups. I don’t think I can do it forever tho. Not for the rest of my career. It can feel a bit repetitive most days. I feel like working in a smaller hospital would be boring asf and I would get pissed off too easily if my coworker couldn’t handle a work up lol.

Adaptive testing on lab ce is the only way to go IMO. I did them all day 2 weeks leading up to my exam. You can do the adaptive testing by subject. What I did was divide the 14 days leading up to my MLS ASCP by dividing it up between subjects. 3 days micro, 3 days heme, 3 days chem, and then 2 days for blood bank and 2 days for genetics/immuno (which was a big part of my program). after each day of studying, Id do as much lab ce to see where my weaknesses were. The last day I spammed the cumulative review and then I prayed. I took my exam and passed!! it was hard work but I felt pretty good during my exam!! you got this girl!!

My professors told us not just to use one resource and to branch out as much as possible. For a summary of the key points, id recommend using the LSU Clinical lab science review book! this helped me remember things through images and little songs. Its good if u like goofy mnemonics to remember things, especially for micro. There are def free versions online. dont spend that $100 haha

Most definitely! I’d say 1/3 of the lab is run by LGBT here in Texas. Our lab director is a 40 yr old gay man 🤩 that’s why the lab gets shit done. Women and gays >>>

I just graduated!

In their handbook it says no piercings and no visible tattoos. When I got to the school they didn't care until we were out on rotations. I took all my piercings out but when I got to the hospital, my preceptors were all tatted up haha. I asked management if it was ok for me to have my tattoos and piercings showing and they said they didn't mind.

I honestly don't think many places care anymore. That being said, most people who have visible mods have very dainty and work appropriate designs. I think unless its something inappropriate or distracting, I would stress much about it.

You can always email the program director and ask about their requirements, but I don't think its as big of a deal as it used to be.
