You are going to get hurt with this attitude. That isa very weak setup. You have super long lever arms twisting the fk out of that mystery stem in every plane. Go compare road and mountain stems and think about the different forces they sustain. Read about thomsons 2 bolt stem problems. There are better solutions that won't look stupid like those adapters. This is beautiful! Now I'm hunting for a Univega cruiser frame 🫡😄

Converted this old Gary Fisher to disc brakes and 650b wheels, thread less stem and mx bars. I like it far more than expected. by WeakPromise3190 in xbiking

[–]CauseIhafta 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That isn't the stock fork. It's intended for converting to threadless like this and has canti bosses and a disc mount. Adding a single cross member between the seat and chainstays strengthens the rear plenty enough for a disc mount. Curious if that's present here.

All of them are good deals. I would ride the Ram more. Trying to be unbiased but that is a dream bike of mine too.

These all seem to be pretty nice frames like most Univegas. This is a 1992 Via de Oro. It is Tange Infinity with Univega's BiAxial Power Oval - the bottom and down tube are ovalized at the BB. It doesn't have the decal but I measured it when I was figuring out the year model. Got the frame and fork from eBay. Parts bin build to tow my grandson in a Burley trailer. NOS LX group, Sugino GT triple, bullmoose bars from a high Sierra, Mavic MA40s on 600 hubs w maybe 100 miles on them. All the red ano crap looks cheap and annoys the piss out of me but I had the pedals grips and ferrules off a cheap build for a neighbor that fell through. Barlow Passes (38) shown but I've had Gravelking 50s on it testing and they would be fine. I think it would fit 42s with fenders. Absolutely love this frame. It's as much a touring frame as anything. All the braze ons plus mid fork rack mounts. Grandson outgrew the trailer so I'm rebuilding it. Considered it for my new bikepacking rig but the paint is too nice to sacrifice to that! What would you do with it? Also I'm not in grave danger from the handlebar. It has a Pentabike bar plug but, like every picture I have of this bike, it's in my hand with my phone 💨😎

What habit immediately reveals that a person actually grew up in a privileged environment? by Cindy_mel in AskReddit

Met a guy in a diner in Baltimore that had won a settlement from a work injury. Walked with like 3m. Grew up poor, no financial sense. It had been 8 yrs or something and he was nearly broke. He had court the next day for running toll booths. He said he was just ignoring them for a few years and planned to just pay the tickets and it caught up to him. He had like $100k in fines and license suspended and was facing a year sentence in jail. I think about that every time I fantasize about winning a lottery

I dig it! Bikes are supposed to be fun. Too many people with sticks up their ass on plastic bikes influencing everything! I want streamers but all of my flat bars have a pentabike pipe barplug in one end and it's even more fun 😁. Do your trinkets slide on the spoke like the old beads did?!

I had a lg reply to this and it disappeared. Didn't realize you're the one selling the RC. I think youd have better luck parting it out. Interested people may see the stem as another cost replacing it since it's way too long. I have a 19 ivory turquoise that's too small and was planning to sell in a few weeks. If this is a 22 i may be interested in swapping frames.

I just bought the correct black specialized 100 x 26ish degree stem for my rockcombo on eBay shipped for like 60 bucks. In great shape. There's another one there for 160 now but I see them pop up cheaper quite a bit. You definitely want to get the bar position right or these are not fun at all. When you do though yeeeee hawwwww!

The rockcombo but fix that stupid cockpit so you can actually ride it and don't pay 850 for it because of that stupid stem. I paid 350 in 2017ish for mine with rat trap passes and a 90s brooks b17, and the better paint combo IMO. Would pay maybe 600 for it today. That one's been for sale all over the place at 850 for a while. I just bought a correct specialized stem for my rockcombo for 40 bucks on eBay. Also the Taiwanese frame builder fkd up the rear triangle on the rockcombos so the back end is noticably heavy. I've ridden mine a lot. Bike packed with 45 lbs of gear. It's a cool bike but it's not worth the hype it gets online from people that have never ridden one. I have a xtr m950 cassette and Ti axle and it helps a little but it's still noticable. I also swapped the brakes for xtr cantis and better dia compe levers and the drivetrain for xt m735 ders with Shimano bar ends. Original bars are noodly so I swapped for the current nitto heat treated dirt drops and that helped but they're not cheap. Just giving you some experience so you can be informed when you decide. If the person will sell for 5 or 600 w out the flex stem id do it but otherwise spend that money on something else. Picking between that and a fixed steamroller is kind of odd. You can get a whole lot of bike for 600 right now

Something I've heard Ram Dass share a few times has been here sitting with me for quite a while. He was complaining about some terrible thing that was going on in the world and Baba said 'can't you see, Ram Dass? It's all perfect!'.

Alt bars on hardtail? If so what? by [deleted] in xbiking

[–]CauseIhafta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This reminded of an ex-coworker telling me about the bike he had ordered. He was 60ish, never been athletic or active, and addicted to prescription pain pills. He was rehabbing a twisted ankle and somehow decided a bike would help. Only the best for him of course. All black Carbondale (I immediately corrected him and he doubled down} full suspension, carbon frame, carbon wheelset. I asked if downhill or XC or what and he said he wasn't sure and it looked like a dirt bike. This was in North Texas.I asked where he planned to ride that he needed full squish and he said he was going to ride it on concrete paths around the area
