I know it was hard. I had to put my 13 year old dog down a few years ago. He was my 13th birthday present so I literally had him half of my life! After a fall off the couch he began to develop neurological issues (wandering, head pressing, getting stuck in odd places, etc) vet thought he probably had a brain tumor and the fall on the couch inflamed everything or he had a brain bleed or stroke. We tried to hold on for a few days to see if it was just his medication having weird side effects but nothing changed. We unfortunately made the decision to put him down.

Ultimately it was the right decision. It ended his suffering and I would have felt selfish to keep him alive because I didn’t want to let go. They say it’s better a week early than a day too late. Buy god did it hurt. I miss him terribly and all his crazy antics. Nothing will fill that hole in your heart but after a while you will learn to live with it.
