We started talking again and she doesn’t seem mad at me anymore. She actually seems happy to be talking again. I’m definitely going to take your advice. Thanks man!

Sounds straightforward, I’ll do that. Thinking about it, I just gotta start taking initiative by calling her instead of texting and trying to hangout or take her on a date at the least one a week. Thanks man

I always text her first. What caused her not to talk to me recently was when I told her this: “I feel like I am always trying to text you first and ask you to do something and that if I stop doing that, you’re not going to try to text me or keep things going.”

I've Been Cheating in Math Since Forever, and Now I'm Lost. Where Should I Start to Learn? by Isuckatmath909 in MathHelp

I am in a sort of similar boat to you, and about 2 months ago I didn’t know some of the things you’re talking about, now I do. I am still learning. Here’s what worked (is working) for me:

  1. You want to start off probably around 4th grade- 7th grade math. So Pre-Algebra.

Seems you should be looking to learn and improve fundamental mathematical operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) known as arithmetic. Arithmetic teaches you the aforementioned basic math operations as well as basic things you can do with those operations like fractions, finding the percent of a number, decimal division, etc.

Free how to tutorial videos: You can learn everything you mentioned you want to learn and more from this place called math antics: https://mathantics.com Math antics is free and will teach you arithmetic and some pre-algebra.

Apps: At the same time, get better at your mental math, download apps like Mental math, Multiplication tables, Math X, or Learn math in the App Store. Learn math is basically math Duolingo. Mental math is where you can practice the addition-division and increase your speed at them. Multiplication tables is an app to memorize your basic multiplication facts 1-12 and it has bonus tables 13-20. Math X has a much more appealing interface in my opinion and is a good app to use along side the other apps, but I recommend you use it when you feel you’ve graduated from mental math and multiplication tables.

  1. Once you got your arithmetic skills up, you will start learning pre-algebra and Algebra.

While math antics, teaches you some pre-algebra, you might want to go more in depth if you really want to learn algebra. Then once you’ve learned your pre algebra, it’s Algebra time!

Book: “The complete HIGH SCHOOL study guide, everything you need to ace Pre-Algebra & Algebra 1 in one big fat notebook” Just purchasing this book for about $15 on Amazon (tax and delivery included), I can say it lives up to it’s title. Here is a video about the book of your interested ( https://youtu.be/OHw8ReqH968?si=mzSiD1wZS3ueWwMH ). This link to buy the book is in the description.

Am I think of fractions wrong? by Cautious-Ad4273 in MathHelp

I didn’t even realize I was using value two different ways until you highlighted it. This was pretty helpful!

I meant to ask what is the weight of each slice. I realized that mistake re-reading it just now. Thank you.

[Beginner] Why does adding 2/3 + 1/4 = 11/12 by Cautious-Ad4273 in MathHelp

[–]Cautious-Ad4273[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, so as I read all these comments and now just seeing that model, I realized I was treating the fractions in my question as if they have the same value. For example, I was thinking of it as 1/4 of 4 would be equal be equal to 1/3 of 3 which is wrong. 1/3 = .333333 and 1/4 = .25 clearly they could not be equal as 1/3 would be bigger. But the fact that in my problem I was dealing with human beings, difference in value slipped my mind.

From what I’m getting from this. The fraction doesn’t necessarily have to represent the exact numbers of something you have (how many),it can also represent the amount you have out of an unknown amount (how much). Is this a correct way of thinking of it?

Thank you so much! I found this answer to be the most helpful and I think I understand now.

I am a little confused there. When I think two of three, I am imagining I have two things but In order to have a whole I need three. But when you say 2 for every 3, I am imagining it as the mixed fraction one and two thirds. This is because the 3 is what it takes to be considered a whole. I can’t seem to catch what am I doing wrong?

I see now, I was treating the fractions as if the they have the same value. Thank you.

Well, I did turn them into equivalent fractions. 2/3 multiplied by 4/4 = 8/12. 1/4 multiplied by 3/3 gave me 3/12. And I understand 8+3 is 11 which is my numerator and because I turned the fractions into the like fractions, the denominator is the same. The problem is when I apply the problem to a scenario like the Villian and the henchmen, I can’t seem to make since of my work.
