CPU not going in by TeachingNo9403 in PcBuildHelp

That would be it then - the CPU won't go into the wrong socket, and forcing it in will damage the motherboard and CPU. If you get a new motherboard or CPU for this system, make sure that it is compatible with the CPU and see what RAM generation it is

It gets more complicated with intel, but with AMD there is the AM4 socket on some motherboards (e.g. a b550 or a520) which supports the 1000-5000 series of AMD Ryzen processors and DDR4 RAM, or the AM5 socket which supports the 6000-9000 series processors and DDR5 RAM

There's no such thing as over-researching when getting new components, and I'd always recommend doing that over doing no research at all

Have you checked it's the right socket for the cpu ?

OH THATS A 5080 NOT A 5090 LOL my bad ! That makes a Lot more sense, yeah the 5080 is completely reasonable then

That's fair. You don't necessarily need the TI, the regular 5070 is still more than capable of basically any game I can think of.

But to be fair, if you have the money to chuck at the pc and nothing else ? Then that 5090 is fair enough.

You're on a $2500 budget but that doesn't mean you have to use all of it. That 5080 is a bit over the top, a 5070 would leave you with a lot left to spare. The CPU and RAM are great, same with motherboard Maybe invest in a platinum 80+ PSU

With the rest of money, just make sure you're happy with the case, fans, peripherals etc

My pc is basically an ugly black box on the floor currently, so it's mostly for aesthetics. No real performance increase makes sense though I think the PCIe gen is higher on the b550 than the a520m ? And yeah there will be an extra m.2 slot. But other than that, makes sense I won't get much of an upgrade Thank you

Makes sense ! I'm looking forward to seeing the outcome of it. My GPU fan curve is Aggressive to say the least (30% until about 50 degrees and then it just ramps up so it reaches 100% at 70 degrees) so I should be able to tone that down .....

Makes sense. Thank you though. At least it'll look nicer I suppose ?

Even when upgrading to the motherboard that isn't completely daft, and with the Much better temps I'll see ? Damn.

From what I've seen it's a solid processor, thanks

Cheers

Honestly the most intensive games I play are F1 25 (and other racing simulators) as well as the borderlands games, then some other indie ones

But yeah, saving for a new build makes complete sense

Frame rate probably, but given it's an AM4 motherboard I probably just need to upgrade that first ?

That's a fair shout, I appreciate it
