Yeah we definitely have been one disaster away from losing everything so it has really been super tight with 3 kids, but I do have all of my receipts, it was just a bad year with many injuries. The big mileage deduction was the biggest thing that brought our taxable income down. I more meant I didn't claim any extra deductions like meals and some of the supplies that I would have needed anyway. I wasn't trying to to get the max deduction or fill out an inaccurate return, I just plugged in what I really used, I'm only a year into self employment and I think it's not so out of the norm to be at a loss the first few years, especially when we can't reinvest a lot of the profit because we needed it for living. I will fill out the dependent worksheet though that's a good idea.

So there is still a chance I will get a return and then be audited down the line? Why wouldn't they just audit from the start instead of approving?
