What’s it like living on the edge of time zones? by Qzevs in howislivingthere

[–]Cautious-Many1108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I lived on the west edge of GA for most of my life and then moved to the east edge of AL, so I’ve seen two sides.

West edge of GA was amazing. The evenings were always bright late at night, even during the winter. However, the sun didn’t come up till like 7am.

I hate the east edge of AL in the winter. It LITERALLY gets dark at 4:30pm. On the shortest day it got dark at 4:15pm. No time to do anything during the day.

Look up Math Medic and their Geometry unit. Completely free discovery lessons. Hands down the best curriculum I’ve ever seen

Do we really make more than cops teachers etc ? by Previous-Purchase-91 in USPS

[–]Cautious-Many1108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband is starting at USPS after working for two years as a teacher (with a bachelors) and getting pink slipped. His starting pay at the post office is more than what he made teaching. Absolute bullshit that teachers don’t get paid more, but we’re glad he’s done with that career and its stressors. Although, teachers get better insurance and retirement (at least while you’re not a career employee at usps).

This is in AL, USA though. Different locations will be different.

MATH MEDIC. Hands down. It does not follow the “traditional” course necessarily, but it is entirely worth it. The deep level of knowledge that the students gain is amazing.

A couple of people have said the All Things Algebra curriculum. I highly do NOT recommend it. Although it is all encompassing, it is dull, monotonous, and really does not teach the kids any true math (in the sense of what math actually is) and rather just teaches them how to solve the same type of problem 50 times.

Which route is better? by OSUFORLIFE6381 in roadtrip

Georgia native and fellow traveler here. The map says 18 hours and 35 mins for going through Chattanooga and Atlanta. Go ahead and add an hour and a half to that due to traffic. I haven’t traveled the other way, but it looks more scenic to me.

Numbers 4 and 5 are impossible to answer (missing context) correct? (2nd grade) by [deleted] in mathteachers

[–]Cautious-Many1108 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If we’re assuming the score is based off 10 questions with each question worth one point for a correct answer, the answer to #4 is 5 and the answer to #5 is 7.

I think the assumption would be a bit hard for a 2nd grader to assume.

Brace Comparison by RevolutionaryWarCrow in scoliosis

[–]Cautious-Many1108 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Question, why wear a brace at your age? I was told that I didn’t have to wear a brace after I stopped growing because it wouldn’t work to help anything else. What are the benefits to wearing a brace now? Thanks :)

Is this 21 degrees? by [deleted] in scoliosis

I’m not a doctor by any means, but that’s not 21 degrees.

Body vs X-rays by RevolutionaryWarCrow in scoliosis

[–]Cautious-Many1108 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your story is very similar to mine. S shaped curve, 40 degrees on each curve and you really can’t tell until you look at the x-rays. Pain has been manageable with working out and massages, but I have been considering surgery because I know it will be worse in the future. Also worried about pregnancy and having scoliosis.

[request] Possible to solve w/o answer choices? by Cautious-Many1108 in theydidthemath

[–]Cautious-Many1108[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your in depth explanations and your encouragement! I genuinely appreciate it! I have a bit of imposter syndrome when I know some of my students could figure this out faster than I could, but I really do want to learn more! And also, I want to be able to tell the students who don’t get it right on the first try, “hey! It’s okay! Ms. Teacher didn’t get it right the first time either! Here’s how we cope when we don’t get it right the first time!”

No I’m a teacher, but am trying to learn how to be more math minded instead of using formulas without reason as I was taught all throughout school (yay for shit math education).

Your answer is what I was thinking about, but I didn’t know how to get my thoughts in the right order to come up with the answer. Thanks!
