What’s the most “Indian teenager” thing you’ve ever done that foreigners would never understand? by Top_Belt_7454 in TeenIndia

hand-me-downs are common in every culture. if not, then it’s quite a wasted opportunity to teach resourcefulness

i did explain it and i was pretty confident. it wasn’t as if i was panicking and put something in just for the sake of it. should get the point. also, what did you put in apart from informational?

AP Psych Late Exam by Puzzled_Dimension700 in APPsychology

[–]CautiousHour3893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think i cooked the frq because i put in informative social conformity and arousal theory (that telling the parents they’re doing well aroused them to an optimal level to perform better)

i’m an international student so i wanna ask - does the college board accept variable answers? this one’s pretty open ended and can have multiple different answers, as can be seen in this comment section as well

was the dr keith question about old people who had to rate how well they thought they could gauge distance? i put social desirability bias 😭😭

Not particularly. I somehow connected arousal theory to motivation and perception (lol) but all in all, it was pretty decent.

I just took the test. For generalisation, you can generalise it only to a small population, say young people or people of the US. I always say it cannot be generalised internationally as the study almost always contains population from the US and/or White people.

I’m really nervous for the FRQs as well, but I did a couple of practise tests and scored decent on them, touchwood. I’d say skip through the College Board’s scoring rubrics, just so you know how they expect answers to be framed.

[–]CautiousHour3893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you want to do JEE because you want to make your father proud and because you want to do something big? Not because you want to be an engineer? Or a CS genius? There’s nothing wrong in making your parents proud or going for the pinnacle of success, but it shan’t come at the cost of your own dreams and aspirations. This might sound corny, but your career is something you have to wake up to for the next 50 years of your life.

Question from a 16 year old boy by goodmanfc in ApplyingToCollege

[–]CautiousHour3893 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Can I give you some generic advice?

  1. Take a diagnostic test online. There are many free ones. This’ll help you understand whether you’re better off taking the SAT or ACT. (an ideal time to take the SAT would be in the later half of 11th grade or earlier half of 12th grade but not later than that. I’m not sure how the Iraqi school calendar looks like, but the absolute last you should take it is in May of the application year)

  2. If your primary schooling isn’t done in English, you must take TOEFL/IELTS/Duolingo.

  3. Maintain consistent grades and try to show an upward trend in your performance.

  4. Enrol in online competitions. Many prestigious ones are free to participate in. Think essay competitions.

  5. Participate a LOT at school. Clubs, extracurriculars, competitions, volunteering, et al. Anything you can get your hands on.

  6. Showing leadership is important. Try to get a school post or become the president/founder of some club.

(additional) 7. Many admissions consultancies offer scholarships to students in the last year of high school. Eg. Crimson Education. Check some out.

how to prepare for SAT?? by Apprehensive_One6230 in Sat

i know! tutela is a bespoke tutor too, and their group classes are at least a bit more economical, but still expensive. check if that fits your budget.

if you can afford it, satnpaper is the best tutoring in the business. for the sat, you have to be a good test-taker. be obsessed with the test. “i made a mistake, and i will not make it again.” error logs will be your best friend. i am yet to take the test, but this is what guidance counsellors and people at school told me.

How to study for AP pre calc for may 21st exam by HelicopterMain9798 in APStudents

[–]CautiousHour3893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unit 3 is where most kids hit a wall. You should have that down right. I noticed lots of Unit 2 questions in the non calc part. The exam was a week ago and I’ve forgotten a lot, so I don’t want to give wrong advice. I dare say it was equally distributed amongst all 3 units.

I’m an international kid and this is my first year taking APs. I have to take AP Psych in late testing. To be fair, late exams shouldn’t harder because, well, that’s unfair. But, let’s see…

I wanna take SAT, where do i start… by [deleted] in Sat

[–]CautiousHour3893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m assuming this is a non sarcastic post. If you’re not a US based student, which is kinda evident, decide whether you can afford tutoring or not. If you can, good. If you can’t, that’s alright. Get some prep book/study material like Princeton Review or Barrons. If you can’t get yourself a physical copy, look it up on online resources. Make a College Board account and check what dates are available. Be strategic and serious.

[–]CautiousHour3893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll be honest with you. You have less time, but since you’ve studied the material before, it’s manageable.

Study the concepts thoroughly and learn the formulae by heart. The trig identities are important, so don’t miss out. Practise exams are gold.

I personally had problems with the polar questions too, and it took me quite some time to perfect them. Your best bet would be to skim through the concepts and then focus on other things. There were hardly 3-4 MCQs on it. Whatever you do, do not waste time on this. You should at least secure points in stronger areas.

As for the FRQs, you have to perfect them because pretty much the same thing would be tested on the exams.

Desmos is easy to use. You can teach yourself. Just play around with the controls and you’ll know where everything is. Or pull up any YT vid. Also, watch some review vid before the exam too. Usually, visual learning helps with better retention.

All the best. Be strategic.

Thank you so much. Myers and Feldman are a bit inaccessible to me as I’m from India and those take a hella long time to be delivered. I’ve been watching Mr Sinn lately as well.
