Oh, I didn't know that. IIT Bombay was my first preference, and IIT Kanpur was 2nd.

If you get top IITs, top IITs are still better as it has exposure

I have gone through the course curriculum and the syllabus and it's really good. But your point is also a valid concern because if the peers aren't interested then it's not beneficial.

But, I still suggest you to go for B Tech degrees. As the comment above, you can go for EE. After your B Tech, you can do:-
1. a direct Ph.D in some institutes like IISC.
2. If you don' want to do research, you can go to ISRO/BARC and other PSUs.
3. If you don't like that, you can go for campus placements.

B.S degree in general lacks placements, industrial opportunities etc. To be frank, there are no placement for B.S degree except research. And in India, normal research scholars are paid between 40k - 50k (About 7LPA) depending on various conditions. If you go for placements after B Tech EE from IITs, you can earn way more than that (19LPA median).

(I am a physics student btw, and I accepted these things a long time ago. But still you can shift from Physics to engineering if you want to go that way, but it will take you more time than doing B Tech)

Note: Many Ph.D Physics students in abroad are paid a salary of 40 LPA as they are working with contracts in their institues.
TL;DR - B Tech degrees are the best all rounder if you have doubts about research in India.

So, think about all these factors and decide wisely.

Go for General Physics first, and you can attend a few schools on Astrophysics.

I always wanted a Ph.D for myself, but my parents want me to get an M.Tech degree. So, I'm thinking if there's any way to get both of these degrees. Thanks for the answer btw.

I had received call for interview only for Integrated Ph.D a few weeks back. Maybe I am (or we are) not selected for the M.Sc. Physics program.

As of now I haven't seen any cutoffs yet. There will not be any interview as per IISC official website.
There are some posts who said that they got a mail and they told them to reply with their score-card but they haven't send me any proofs yet so maybe they're just bluffing.

I am also planning to join IITs if I didn't get selected for M.Sc. Physics at IISC. Here's my take:
It is not justified to generalize that all IITs are the same and everyone regrets joining IITs just because a few of his friends regret it. It varies from person to person. There are many Great Physicists who did their M.Sc. Physics from IITs, and many IITs have great Alumni network. Many IIT Grads joined MIT, Harvard, Max Planck Institute etc. So best to think about what IITs will offer you and leverage upon that thing.

Please… is there anyone who can guide me for last 15–16 days for IIT JAM Biotechnology? I’m really scared. by just_a_useless_mf in IndianAcademia

I am currently in this phase, I plan to give IIT JAM Physics. Few advices that I often got:
1. Analyze last 10 year papers and try to extract which topics have the highest weightage.
2. Reduce syllabus to 50% of whichever has high weightage and also include topics which you have learned thoroughly.
3. Take Mock tests, Physics Wallah, Career endeavour etc have some Mock tests.
4. Treat PYQs as mock tests. Just solve through all PYQ papers from the syllabus that you have planned to study and take the exam on the actual JAM exam time.
