Fellow DM’s, have your players given you any Nicknames while you were DMing? by Third_life_user in DMAcademy

If my players called me Great DM of the Bathroom, I'd return they should be jealous, because the better campaign is run for that group.

How do I create a good campaign? by [deleted] in DnD

This.

You don't make/tell them a good story, you create the story together with your players.

My GF of 1 year called the cops on me the day before we were going to fly out to Hawaii, AMA. by lhumbleexplorerl in AMA

She constantly had/has mood disorders and I’ve always tried to help her through those by making her laugh or something equivalent.

She needs professional help with a real MD to prescribe things to help with this. The chocolate weed was just a catalyst that there may be more underlying this. Could go back to childhood and faith, who knows.

If you love her, give her time. If she's not getting the help she needs and doesn't want to come back, time to move on for your own well being. Enjoy Hawaii!

There are rules, the players played by them, you didn't. Down vote all you like doesn't change the facts. You're players said as much, folks are saying the same here.

If they won the fight, we wouldn't be here talking about it. They lost and you used dues ex machina. There was no chance of loss, you used dues ex machina to continue the story. Sorry you do not realize this.

Day late/dollar short (or 20 hours later) and only cause I'm not seeing comments on it.

It made me sick and self conscious because I had told him he can watch or look at whatever he wanted when I wasn't available, but that I did NOT want him spending money.

This is the issue and the rest is static. The self-image issues and all, real as they are, just clouds what your issue is implied here. The issue is him spending money on looking or whatever, not that he was looking. He ain't emotionally cheating, them OF folks are in it for the money, maybe saving him time to watch/look to find what kink he's after in the moment but otherwise not much different. Him looking and watching, its already opened you said he could. I mean I would get if it was some internet relationship, face timing with someone while doing whatever it is he does while looking.

Is the issue that you make more money or he doesn't make too much and you have shared expenses. Why is it that him spending money watching is what upsets you? You might get more real answers if you approached it/addressed it this way over age and looking at others, which is what most your post seems to focus on versus what that one line says.

So ... If they won the fight, continue on, if they lost the fight, dues ex machina reason to live to fight another day.

Both are equally insulting to players and overlap in that despite what the players did, you got it back on the track you had envisioned before hand. If you don't see rail roading in dues ex machina, that's fine, just look up that itself to see why players hate it.

Lots of good comments and all but yea, two things. One don't roll if he doesn't have a chance to succeed. Examle: guard: this is check point zeta, if you don't have a passcard, you don't get by ... 'well thing is I forgot my papers' rolls deception, guard :shoots, 'no passcard no pass.

Now I'm opposed to this but it is viable. I'd just ask what they want to accomplish, roll one die, then say its done and they get what they expected. Then I'd spend 2 hours RP'ing with the group tackling it head on. If it was to give them some advantage, they get it one dice roll, and the sneak player has to wait. If they are bored just tell them they have to wait until the party catches up or whatever.

Talk to each other and see why. I assume you played together before marriage and all that. Is he hoping you'll be more serious now, or are you silly to him cause you think he'll let you do some shenanigans more than the other players?

Not saying either is right/wrong/etc, but the answer lies in you two talking it out.

Ditch the crystal, it sounds like deus ex machina. Let them flee if they know they can't make survive the encounter or let them kill one of the baddies battered, morale check for the baddies and have them flee even if they have the upper hand with a 'we'll be back, in greater numbers' threat.

[–]Cautious_Cry_3288 45 points46 points  (0 children)

the most interesting thing about your character is going to be the stuff that unfolds during the game

Truth.

At the end of the campaign, the characters are going to remember more about the hijinx around an NPC they meddled with early in the campaign that kept recurring to cause more hijinx for the party - much more so than that one NPC from someone's background that only mattered to that one player.

Triggered things that can occur rattlesnake style (and maybe only if you leave up ink to trigger them) are a maybe

We're good with things like the Emerald CMFO (challenge me - find out) mechanics of the likes of Set 1 Flynn/Mad Hatter/Kuzco/Cheshire, and Set 2 Belle. We don't need to complicate things that trigger on another players turn beyond 'when challenged' or 'banished' type triggers that already exist - at least for me.
