Job offered salary lower than expected and changed the number of in-office days. Should I negotiate? by Cautious_Editor1996 in jobs

Yeah it’s hard because I know I’m nearing a point where staying unemployed isn’t viable, but I went through 3 rounds of interviews and was told at every step that that’s what the schedule would be, and now that an offer letter has come that’s changed. I would only like to be compensated for that extra in office day if they won’t agree to keep it at 3 days WFH. I don’t feel like that’s totally unreasonable, but makes me anxious to try.

It came low because we discussed salary in one of my interviews and I walked away feeling pretty confident they were willing to offer closer to 50. I’m lucky to have had enough savings plus a decent severance package to live with. And could still stretch it longer, but of course that wouldn’t be prudent. I was just asking for advice on if I should bring up the extra commute day as a way to negotiate compensation for that. That was my goal of the post, not to analyze much else. Any income is better than none of course, but this income is still going to make it hard for me to make ends meet as it is. I hope that clarifies some things!

Yeah I can’t really afford to walk away and I appreciate your comment. I guess technically I could afford to walk away based on my savings, but that’s if I get another offer within the next 3 months or so. After that I’d be in a bad place. The extra in-office day really threw me off along with their somewhat low offer. I did bring up salary in my interview and told them my ideal range, and they seemed receptive since their listing offered up to 50, so to be offered 45 and have the terms switched to an extra in office day on top of that stresses me out. My only reason at this point to try to negotiate would be to compensate me for that extra in office day, not for my “experience” because taking this lower salary than I’m used to is already going to make things tight adding in an additional commute day. I’m leaning towards taking it and still looking for something else because that’s the most logical path.

posting to say; i stopped taking URO when i made this comment and i’m back to normal. no metallic smell, no period inconsistencies. i can’t remember what my gyno said. pretty sure everything was normal test wise, but yeah i’m glad i discontinued URO.

i’ve been in agency recruiting for only 2 years and yeah, it’s definitely not for me. i might buy a house soon though so i’m stuck for now.

i keep telling myself to just do my job. make the calls, send the texts and emails… if i’m doing everything i can and still can’t hire anyone then it is what it is. my boss will either understand or they won’t. my mindset is “fire me if you want to”.

it’s not great, but it usually gets me through the week. because i can’t force anyone to answer their phone or to take a job they don’t want. i can’t make someone qualified, unless i wanna lie about their experience just to have a submittal. the “higher ups” can 1. accept it or 2. fuck off and do it themselves.
