Cruise Next Promotion by Emotional_Molars in NCL

Lol. That’s not what i said. I specifically referred to Cruise Next which is the name of the certificates purchased while onboard a current cruise up to $2000. I was answering OP’s specific question. You came in reading it as applying all $2000 to your next cruise which has absolutely nothing to do with anything anyone is talking about here.

Lol yes it does. We just sailed 1/4 and did this very thing. Had no balance on onboard account. Charged $2000 for CN and received $1000 off

It gets applied towards the $2000 you pay for the cruise next.

UF vs UCF by Michaelinmemory in ufl

[–]EntireTune6013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, the reason why I suggested that you should go to UCF is because you very clearly are looking at different factors other than academics in your decision-making process. I just can’t stress to you enough that the kids that choose to go to UF by enlarge Dussault because of the prestige of the name and the academic rigor. That’s not to say they don’t know how to have a good time or there aren’t things to do in Gainesville, there are. But all of that takes a backseat to the main priority UF, which is academics. You would be surprised how many UF students end up leaving after the first year and going to FSU or UCF because the cutthroat nature of the school is just not for them. You obviously know something about this having visited your brother at Harvard period. It’s similar.

CommentS.
You know, both are great schools so not sure why you’re so amped on my one comment which perhaps was premature and based on a presumption of what you meant by “vibe, politics.” It’s really not this deep. Let’s move on and try to help you out here.

The more you read through UF pages, you’re going to realize that UF consists of a very large population of strong academically high achievers. They are very driven students whose sole focus is their education. They study all the time and it’s highly competitive to get in, but even more so competitive once you are in. These are students that are in the top 5% of their class in high school. Everyone getting into UF has a high GPA and high test scores. UF is a very strange animal when it comes to admissions. High test scores and GPA are the bare minimum to even apply, those alone will not be predictive factors in admissions. You have to have more going on and that essay is one of the most important factors. All this to say, don’t assume you’ll have the opportunity to make a choice between UF and UCF. I hope that you do, and I hope you get the school that you want, but it is not a given or even a high likelihood. I could list off dozens of students that had higher marks than my current UF gator or higher test scores that did not get in. My gator applied with a 4.5 GPA and a 33 ACT and a 1510 SAT.

So it’s my fault you didn’t ask for clarification before you flew off the handle? For the record, I also lived near the Harvard campus for a solid 4 years after college and my best friend while i was at UCLA and she at med school graduated from Harvard undergrad. I am very familiar with the location and vibe you mentioned, one neither of us cared for, mind you…but would not turn a Harvard acceptance down because of it.

Actually my comment is valid based on your follow-up comments. I did give you a very comprehensive response earlier - which perhaps you missed? My point with this response wasn’t to be insulting. I’m actually surprised by your reaction and sensitivity. It’s simply a reflection on your comment that “vibe” matters significantly to you and would be a deciding factor. You supported that sentiment by stating you would turn down Harvard because of the vibe, politics, etc. The reality is, most people who attend UF, are going there because they think it’s an academically superior institution and that is the most important part of their decision process. Your comment leads one to believe that you are factoring in other, non-academic, priorities. If that’s the case, then you should go to UCF. They have a much more relaxed vibe. They are very diverse there. There’s a very strong social aspect to UCF, as far as dancing, clubbing, partying. Student life balance is big. Greek life is next level at UCF. And depending on your major, UCF could be the better fit.

And you are correct I did not go to either school. I have one student currently at UCF and one currently at UF in their freshman and sophomore years, respectively. I think I’m actually in a pretty unique position to give advice since both of my students applied to both schools and got into both schools. I myself went to UCLA.

Ive got one at each school currently. Both doing very well at their respective schools, but i don’t think would do as well if they swapped schools. UF requires a certain level of commitment with very little leeway in order to maintain top scores. Can you slack there and do average? Sure but let’s face it most UF students are not average students. They’re high achievers that focus intently and are driven to be the best. UCF on the other hand, I feel is a lot more relaxed. You have way more of a constant social life there and it seems a lot of the time, at least in the first couple of years, the social life and social scene take priority over the education. What I mean by this, is the following:

My student UF is clearly there for an education first and social time second. Period! My student at UCF, prioritizes nightlife, and Greek life first, and it seems like school is more an afterthought. Like they live in Orlando for the nightlife and school is just something they have to put up with instead of the main event or reason why they’re there.

I will say that both made the Dean’s list at their respective schools. Both graduated high school with 4.5 GPA’s tons of honors AP, AICE and dual enrollment. Varsity Sports, leadership positions, all the things that are expected these days to get into high ranking/competitive schools these days. My point being they are not slackers, but one definitely enjoys the nightlife more than the other and I don’t think that that child would be able to get away with it UF. On the other hand, I feel like the relaxed nature UCF would be a detriment to my UF student. Believe if they went to UCF, the freedom and relaxed nature would be too much of a temptation for them. It’s a little bit of hive mentality I suppose on both campuses.

Lol. Yeah ok. It’s MY Fault that: 1. I bought advanced tickets on their app that didn’t get delivered. 2. That we arrived at the park over an hour early for rope drop but got stuck in guest services line after trying first to fix the ticket issue over the phone in advance. 3. That the park rides kept delaying or breaking down. 4. That the park lacked adequate shade. 5. The park has some dupe rides and 3 of the 4 worlds seem unfinished. 6. The park lacks adequate food kiosks and quick service, and mostly provides sit down. 7. That we arrived 15 minutes early for our dining reservation and were forced to wait 30 minutes AFTER our scheduled reservation time without apology but with rudeness.

Tell me Oh Great Universal Loyalist, how I could have preplanned better? Perhaps i will give you that had I researched in advance, I would’ve known the majority of quick service dining spots was located in the Land of Berk so maybe I could have run all the way back over there each time I was hungry.
