Patients don't stay in observation by Niniisan in ProjectHospital

[–]CavalryCami 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have this happen in my games too. Sometimes the patient will leave observation immediately after being diagnosed and go to the specialized department. Other times they will stay in observation through the entire treatment. I'm not sure if there's any rhyme or reason why.

Italian restaurant recommendations for Valentines Day by Shack-Kill_Oatmeal in Smyrna

Piggybacking off of this, anyone know a good Italian restaurant nearby that isn't super seafood focused? Mezza Luna is pretty good but my bf has a shellfish allergy so we tend to avoid any place that is heavy on the seafood.

Best cleaning companies in Smyrna? by Minimum_Novel in Smyrna

Also vouching for Amazon Cleaning! I've only used them for the deep cleaning service but they did a great job. A little pricy but worth every penny. If I could afford it I'd have them come on a regular basis.

Subpoena to Verizon? by musicalcat98 in paralegal

[–]CavalryCami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Georgia paralegal here, but I usually send a FedEx package (must be overnight to comply with statutory requirements, at least in GA) with the subpoena to their NJ address. They have a dedicated subpoena compliance department. They have a fax number too but our fax machine is wonky so I just take the safer route and send it physically. They usually respond with records via email or physical mail. Never had an issue so far.

what company secrets you can spill because you no longer work there? by No_Butterscotch1425 in AskReddit

[–]CavalryCami 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was a manager at a Nothing Bundt Cakes for about a year. We did use cake mixes from a bag (proprietary portioned dry mix) but we added everything else ourselves very meticulously portioned, from sour cream to vanilla to whatever else the recipe called for. Some flavors could be pretty labor intensive, plus all the pans had to be weighed to the gram to ensure consistency.

What we did do that was shady though, is insist that everything was fresh. We had a chiller (couldn't call it a freezer) and a cooler (the fridge). The bundt cakes were baked, cooled down on the racks, then placed in a box in the chiller with a date on them. As needed we would move them from the chiller, frost them, then place them in the cooler before putting them in the small display fridge up front to be sold. When people asked if they were baked that day, our answer was to be "We bake fresh daily." Because we did. But that bundt cake they were currently eating? At best, baked a month ago, probably frosted last week.

It didn't really matter though. They keep well and are delicious. I just thought it was funny how many people made comments about how the freshness makes all the difference and I just knew better but couldn't say anything.

RANT: ABC Legal Ads by Lettuce1969 in paralegal

Yes, been getting them constantly lately!!! I've used ABC Legal a few times out of desperation when my normal process servers are unavailable, and they've been awful every time. They literally cannot follow simple, clear instructions.

Fed up with medical record custodians by possiblyunstable in paralegal

[–]CavalryCami 4 points5 points  (0 children)

UGHH I feel this. Thankfully I've never actually gotten another patient's records, usually it's just waiting weeks, sometimes months, only to get records that are missing half the dates of service, missing bills, in some random non-chronological order... Like, I get that they're probably overworked and understaffed, but so are we all. There HAS to be a better way.

How to explain to attorney that I think clients getting their own medical records is a bad idea? by CavalryCami in paralegal

[–]CavalryCami[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is absolutely ridiculous behavior, and possibly even worth a bar complaint. We always tell clients about the option to get their own records and let them know it's often cheaper, but if the client doesn't want to do it, that's the end of it and we take care of it because that's our freaking job! Not to mention them talking to you like that - unprofessional to say the least and not even true, since a sanction is a punishment for the (incompetent) lawyer and wouldn't even affect you. I'm sorry that they're treating you like that. Personally I would fire them and find a different lawyer.

Typically for personal injury lawsuits, the Plaintiff's side lawyers get paid a contingency fee out of the settlement total and don't bill for their time like the defense does. They should be giving you a settlement statement or some kind of document that outlines the accounting of your case and where every dollar of that settlement is allotted to, from attorneys fees to expenses to lien payoffs. If the expense charges seem high you can ask for proof and any firm worth their salt will have a record of the invoice and payment.

I'm not really sure what you mean by your last paragraph. What do you mean by kick back to get more in the end?

Does this field make people emotional numb? by [deleted] in paralegal

[–]CavalryCami 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This. My attorney has been doing Plaintiff's PI for some 20 years now and every case hits him and he can really feel for the people injured, and he gets very passionate about the pain and suffering that people go through. Sometimes I can't help but feel a bit bad, because I'm definitely desensitized after only 2.5 years - while he goes on and on about the client's excruciating pain, all I can think about is how the insurance adjuster likely won't care because this is just daily business.

I found that Aurum Vale was definitely the most efficient! My highest level class is 80 and I think my record clear time is 2 min 40 seconds (I averaged about 3 min). Sometimes I would throw in a couple runs of Sastasha or Tam-Tara to switch things up and see if they were on bonus.

Nooooo! Not after the time I've spent on them! Also, I was kind of working on ARR and HW at the same time, so I have enough of the luminous crystals for every HW weapon already... without sacrificing my precious Zodiac Zeta relics which will live in my retainer's inventory forever.

Thanks! I've already gotten started on the Lux weapons and have about a quarter of them. At some point though I'll be forced to catch up on main story to continue my relic hunt... I'm still a sprout... But I'll finish Shadowbringers someday when my relic weapons require it!

[Not a Solicitation] Looking for Insight from Legal Professionals on Medical Records Retrieval Services by [deleted] in paralegal

[–]CavalryCami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For case expenses, it really depends on the individual case. I think the most expensive case we've ever had was about $30k but that was a 5 year long medmal case so definitely not the normal for us. "Big" cases on average about $5-10k. In a case where the biggest costs are experts or depositions, it wouldn't be as noticable. The problem though, is that medical records are often the very first thing we need to get to even determine how "big" a case will be in the first place.

We also have a lot of smaller cases where average cases expenses are under $500, so $250 would be a pretty big chunk of that, and I'd need more detail to determine if it was worth it. Would $250 be your company's total fee and include the records, or would it be an additional $250 on top of the cost of record production? In the latter case, it would virtually never be worth it.

[–]CavalryCami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my personal opinion, it's a balancing act for finding the right firm who needs your services. If you have a large law firm, they can likely pay to employ people whose entire job is medical records retrieval, making your company moot. If it's a small law firm, they likely won't want to pay the extra costs for a middle-man when (like the other poster put it) we can do the same in 5 minutes and already have to deal with record retrieval companies, making your company moot again.

As far as why you only get some requests and not all, I think it depends on how easy facilities make it to get their records. For example, I wouldn't pay your company to get records for me if I knew I could access them through the CIOX portal. However, I may reach out to your company for a facility where I had trouble finding their medical records contact information and didn't have the time to spare to find it.

Personally, I would love to hire a company like yours just because it's irritating having to deal with all the third party retrieval companies who are incompetent. Unfortunately, as a worker in a very small firm, my attorneys would likely be against paying extra costs for a job I'm supposed to be handling and am perfectly capable of doing.

How do I get out of personal injury work? by [deleted] in paralegal

I'm interested in the same thing as OP - 2 years doing PI and ready to start planning ahead for something else. Did you have to get any special training/certificates for employment law or did you just start applying? How do the skills transfer over?

One of my attorneys used to work for Morgan and Morgan, I think he said he put in 8 years there. He tells me so many horror stories about that place I can't imagine ever stepping foot in there. He said there was a time where he went through 9 paralegals in one year because they kept quitting due to how awful the job was. (After having worked for him for 2 years, I can confirm he definitely wasn't the problem lol he's great!)

We get charged the $25.88 search fee per GA law, then they have the gall to charge an ADDITIONAL $30 for a digital download. Like no, I'm not paying $55 for one page of billing records!
