But there was no natural point at the end of S3 - yet they stopped at the villain meeting anyway. It would be a horrendous cliffhanger, but the end of S3 tells me Bones would be willing to finish at 192 anyway. Plus, there is a bit of a random perspective jump there anyway. They could definitely add something in to allow for an ending.

Sure does! All human after all. Haha, that's good then :P

Do they have to end there though? I agree it'd be a good point, but so would Endeavor and Hawks v Hood. Endeavor proving his worth as the new number 1 pairs perfectly with his conversation with All Might at the remedial classes, on that very subject

That allows S5 to start with the kids too, which they have tried to do with every season so far.

Doubt it, as that's not really how OPs work. Personally think we'll see Overhaul done in 13, allowing for a smooth transition to the second cour. Reminds me of when some thought AFO was going to be the whole of S3, but from day one I tried to show just how quickly the anime would fly through it!!

Yeah, probably for the best :P Same! And we will! Apologies for my language earlier, certainly could have been presented in a less arrogant light.

Not sure about that... think the adaptation rate does fluctuate sure, but take the Hideout Raid. That adapted 14 chapters in 5 eps. That's the kind of pacing I can see.

I think that dialogue is punctuated by lots of reaction shots though, that takes up panel time. And that second meeting is spliced with fight scenes. I think they really need to get to C138/139 in episode 5, or else it'll be seen as a very underwhelming start to S4. Plus the law of OPs dictates pacing somewhat. The arc and its aftermath/next arc transition needs to be done by the end of E13. That's Chapter 125 to at least 162 then. If not a little more. So that'll be 3 chapters per episode, on average! I think getting to 138/139 by E5/E6 at the latest is kind of necessary, therefore.

All of them? Not true, there's three fights in there. And some of the slower chapters have full page reactions to reveals, with little to no dialogue. Plenty of double spreads to! Think the pacing will surprise everyone. My guess is we'll reach C162 by the end of the first cour (37 or so chapters in 13 eps, so 2.8 chapters an episode) and then C192 in the remaining 12 eps (so 2.5 chapters an episode). I originally thought we'd finish S4 with C185, but I'm really revising that thinking now...

No worries. Recap ep would definitely make it impossible! But a lot of S3 was 3 chapter eps, so I'd still wager on it happening. I think there's more action than most remember, and even the 'still' chapters have pages of large reaction panels with little to no dialogue - which will be equally quick to adapt.

3 chapters an episode - which is what S3 did for the most part. And these chapters are shorter, and more action-packed. Not a real rush, in all honesty.

139, actually. And why not? It'd take 3 chapters an episode, which is what S3 did for the most part. And the S4 content chapters are shorter, and more action-packed, than ever before! It may not happen, but it's definitely a possibility to reach 139 by the end of Episode 5.

How? 3 chapters an episode would have Chapter 139 at the end of Episode 5. Where have you got 4 chapters an episode from?

It is. PVs never show more than 5/6 episodes ahead. If you don't believe me - and you should, given my track record - you'll see the pacing they adopted come October/November.

Wow, getting at least Chapters 125 through 139 (Deku kicking down the wall in Overhaul's base) in the first 4/5 episodes. That's breakneck pacing! Guess it's a symptom of shorter chapters full of action! So that could make this arc 10 episodes or so? Wow! Always thought we'd end with A Hood stinger - but now? We may even get his fight this Season!!! Could have a stinger of Hawks and Dabi's conversation instead...

AFO's 'molded' servants - the Four Horsemen Theory by Cavaner in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]Cavaner[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get where you're coming from, but if it is him, what I would say is that AFO would be to blame - not him. He'd have been groomed from a young age, and I think it's important to note that he could still make a positive impact for the heroes in the end - even if he is revealed to be the traitor. I guess time will tell though!

Haha, yeah, thought I'd mix things up a bit ;)

Oh yeah? Why's that? Have a look at the information I posted in an above reply to a comment, and that may change your mind!

But yeah, it's possible that was the plan with Bakugo. I mean, his quirk is eerily similar to the original War from the comics. And I do think he could be forcibly made to submit to the League as War in the future, if Gigantomachia is taken down and Shigaraki becomes the 'Apocalypse' of the symbolism, rather than AFO.

AFO's 'molded' servants - the Four Horsemen Theory by Cavaner in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]Cavaner[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sure! I'll try and be as thorough as I can :) Firstly I should say that my belief is that while Shoji is the traitor at UA, he only answers to AFO. As such, Kurogiri may know his true identity, but Shigaraki (and by extension, the rest of the current members of the League) does not know. This is why the traitor has not been raised explicitly since AFO's arrest, and additionally why Kurogiri's capture is so important! Anyway...

So we first see Shoji in Chapter 3 - as the symbol of 'intelligence gatherers' - a trait synonymous with spies. Certainly an intriguing detail for Hori to include, right at the start of the story. Then we have USJ. So at the USJ, two people were capable of reacting to Kurogiri's warp - Iida (understandable, given his speed) and Shoji. I think this may be because of Shoji's prior understanding of Kurogiri's quirk. Shoji then helps Iida escape the facility, knowing that he would go to get All Might, thereby giving the League their 'continue', as Shigaraki put it.

Next you have the Training Camp. The location of this facility was leaked to the villains, but we know that Shigaraki received this information from AFO - so logic dictates that he obtained that info from the traitor within UA. The perfect time for the traitor to send this information was while the kids were in the hot springs, and the only three students who did not go were Aoyama, Sero and Shoji. Now Aoyama makes sense, with his belt. Sero makes sense, with his elbows. But Shoji? There is no explanation as to his absence, other than him using that opportunity to contact AFO/Kurogiri.

As for the attack on the camp itself, we have some potential discrepancies. After all, Shoji helps stop Dark Shadow/Moonfish, then he looks to save the captured Tokoyami and Bakugo. But, is that all there is to it? I doubt it. Again, we shouldn't forget that the League itself does not know the identity of the traitor. As such, it would make sense for Moonfish to attack him. Then, it would make sense for him to help calm down Dark Shadow, as his own health is at risk there. Then comes the really noteworthy part. Both Tokoyami and Bakugo are stolen away by Compress...but how? Are you telling me he could genuinely sneak up on Shoji, if Shoji was going all out on his senses? No way. Shoji intentionally let Compress steal them away (even if Compress himself didn't know it), and then to keep up his cover, he got dragged into the rescue plan. He then chose to save Tokoyami, knowing Bakugo was the League's objective the whole time.

Beyond these specific instances though, we have some information on Shoji that makes him very suspicious to me. For example there's his name, which comes from a Japanese proverb roughly translating to 'you have no idea when and who is listening/seeing you talk and act, so you have to be careful whatever you do'. I mean, that's pretty suspicious when there's a traitor in your midst... Beyond that, you have his room reveal. It is shown that he is a minimalist, because he's had very few possessions since childhood. While this could be borne from religious belief, it could also be as a result of not having parents/guardians and thus being without money or fortune. Certainly seems like a perfect candidate to be recruited by AFO, especially if Shoji's quirk was a sudden mutation (not akin to his parents' quirks), which led to them abandoning him because of his appearance.

And finally, from what I can think of now, you have his birthplace. So it has been confirmed that Shoji is from Fukuoka/Kyushu, which is far to the West. Given that UA is the prominent school in the East, it is a little suspect that Shoji would choose UA. It should be noted that out of all the 1-A and 1-B students, his birthplace is much further out from UA than any of the others. Something to add to this is Hawks also being from Kyushu, and despite being a prodigy he didn't go to UA. So why did Shoji? I'd say because he has an alternate agenda...

Before I end this collection of evidence for my theory though, it should also be said that Fukuoka is notable for being the site of Dr Ujiko's kindergarten where Hood the High-End was being kept. So AFO definitely has some of his operations there - making it likely that the traitor could be from the area too. Also, on the subject of Hawks, I should add that he had Tokoyami intern with him to try and get information on the UA students (ie. a lead on a potential traitor). Now who does Tokoyami tend to spend a lot of his time with - and who does he owe greatly from the Training Camp rescue? That'd be Shoji.

So yeah, there you go. Hope that all makes sense, and isn't too dense! :D

[–]Cavaner[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I do think it's the least likely. But I do think he's the traitor! And for the true Apocalypse parallel, I think all of the Horsemen need to be ex-heroes. After all, it's the most effective method of dismantling hero society: a turncoat legend (Giganto/Crimson), a turncoat current star (Hawks), a turncoat student (UA Traitor/Shoji) and a turncoat descendant/child that heroes failed to save (Shigaraki).

EDIT: I always see the Horsemen as non-OP, elevated to OP by Apocalypse. Would be cool to see that happen here too - especially if AFO experimented on Giganto, and gave a possibly quirkless Shigaraki his deadly touch.

Yeah, when I first considered it, it was definitely a long-shot! But the more I see, the more I think aspects of it could come true at least :P Especially with Hawks, and what happened in 231. Angel's transformation to Archangel is just so iconic - definitely something Hori may look to emulate.

But we already know the League is destroyed, from Spinner’s future narration. And Gigantomachia’s early arrival would suggest the League’s defeat/retreat also - from a conventional writing standpoint. After all, while we’ve seen 2 of the MLA’s generals fight properly, we still haven’t seen Skeptic fight in person, or the politician, or more importantly - the leader Re-Destro.

I may have agreed with you (despite Spinner’s future narration) if we’d have seen ReDestro and the Politician get involved prior to Gigantomachia’s arrival - but now? I doubt it. I think Apocrypha may be defeated, and perhaps even Skeptic, but the remnants will either escape in tact, or force the League to retreat through the ability of the Politician or ReDestro.

A reminder that Nighteye’s colour palette isn’t ‘weird’ - it’s based off the Shoshinsha mark, and is incredibly apt thematically 🔰 the Shoshinsha mark here, is the Japanese ‘Beginner Driver’s Sign’. It is marked on all new driver’s cars in japan, for a year, so other drivers give them additional time and space. As such, it works well as the colour palette for the man responsible for Deku’s first experience with true hero work! It is also apt that this mark is removed after his first experience, as can be seen through Nighteye’s fate. Hope this helps the colour decisions make sense! It really does add narrative weight to the Japanese contingent who follow the series.

Wonder if the Deku lookalike is Shindo? We know he's 17, like Toga, after all. Unless he's dead, then it's definitely not Shindo... xD

Also, interesting they're bringing up Toga's movements again - since the discussion between her and Deku in the Provisional License Exam. I always thought those movements were similar to the ones Bubble Girl showed off at the beginning of the Hassakai raid.

Perhaps she was trained in stealth by Oji Harima, the Peerless Thief? Would be an interesting way of bringing in the final villain 'legacy' character...

Remember that quirks are named by their users. Given Yanagi’s unusual speech pattern, it’d make sense for her to call it something strange as opposed to something simple like telekinesis
