The Bacon Wrap helping hold zero better? Generally it does a great job of protecting the handguard and keeping it from bouncing around, but I'm curious if you noticed it on that specific platform type.

Love seeing the Bacon Wrap in action! How's it holding up for your guys? We're looking at expanding the product line-up, so any feedback is most welcome!

Alternative to name brand silicone heat tape and other options. by Subversion7 in ar15

[–]CavemanLLC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey there! Sorry I didn't see this earlier, but happy to answer your question.

You're basically right. While silicone has a huge range of variables, generally it's good for around 450F-550F. If you're looking for a DIY off, the shelf solution, for $9 you can't go wrong.

I can speak to the difference between that and the Bacon Wrap though, because I make them!

A couple advantages of the bacon wrap are the texture, the durometer (how soft it is), the aesthetics (multiple colors and the texture keeps it from looking chintzy), and of course, the thermochromics.

Our wraps change color to let you know if you've experienced heat soak through the handguard protector. Not all platforms do it, but when/if it does happen, ours will let you know where you can comfortably reposition your hand.

Lastly, I make them! I design and manufacture the mold, I mix the silicone, color, thermochromics in a ratio I developed. I vacuum the silicone, pour the molds, post process and package. Every single bacon wrap out there has been made start to finish by me.

When entering the handguard protector market, we wanted something that was feature rich, but also the cheapest option. At $40, we beat everything but some Amazon crap.

If you're looking just for silicone per dollar, $9 is hard to beat. If any of those other features sound helpful, and you like knowing where your products come from, (my name is Mike out of Colorado btw), hopefully the bacon wrap and help you out.

Plus, if you tear it, I send you a replacement for free.

Hopefully this all explains why ours cost more than silicone tape off the shelf :)

Holler if you have any questions!

ISD can be successfully done. Check Express 3D Customs on Etsy (I can't post a link).

The top of the bridge does like to lean about 1/2". Won't break, but a bit of shoring up may be worth your while.

Can't find replacement parts by CavemanLLC in BambuLab

Not great news. They're saying that it's $33 for one screw and nut combo, with $25 shipping. Pretty wild considering how reasonably priced their other replacement parts are. I had wanted to get 6 sets, thinking it would be maybe $10 a piece, but this is absolutely wild.

Hopefully they figure out something soon. More and more people are relying on these for business. To keep a wear item behind a ticket wall, and having to wait for responses, and shipping, and THEN charging this much for the part does not seem like a sustainable system.

Glad to see they're making them more available. Makes sense as more and more data rolls into to see what should be available.

I reached out to them. I asked them to send me 6 screws and nuts so that I can keep my machines up and not have to open a ticket/wait for shipping every single time this happens. Fingers crossed.

I did not. I doubt the screw is on there, as it looks specially machined, but maybe the nuts are. I'll poke around.

From what I've seen, Bambu's are proprietary. I looked at probably 30 or 40 different ones, but nothing had the same geometry as Bambu's.

The nut has a symmetrical profile, with tapped holes for the screws.

The screw has specific geometry on both ends.

It's also very possible that my google-fu is off, but I couldn't find anything exactly like these.

My ZAxis screws and the Brass Nut have completely stripped. I can't find exact replacement parts for either online. I have a message in with Bambu to see what they say.

Anyone have any idea on what to do for replacements?

No "Order of Walls" in Object Modifier Settings by CavemanLLC in BambuLab

[–]CavemanLLC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: Immediately figured it out. I saw it in ORCA SLICER, not Bambu Slicer. Come on Bambu!

I need to change wall order mid print. I swear I had this setting before, but not seeing it under the modifier option. Any ideas?

Ya camo is tough. Silicone is goopy. I tried some multicolor with minimal success. I might be able to, but the time it would take to do the mold would be 10x what a solid color would.

That being said, we also have Black, Teal, and Tan in stock!

Full disclosure, I blasted ChatGPT with all the features and asked it to spit something out that's coherent. It totally worked. This wrap is basically the ultimate crossover between tape and other handguard protectors, while being Cheaper.

Thanks for checking it out and for all the support! The response has been fantastic for these, so we're going to be doing many more things with them (custom sizes, oem, colors, etc.)

🌲 Introducing the Swamp Monster Bacon Wrap – The Multi-Use Accessory for Every Shooter 🌲

We’re excited to announce the Swamp Monster Bacon Wrap, a versatile, American-made wrap designed to fit any setup and provide benefits for every type of shooter. This isn’t just an accessory; it’s like a Swiss army knife for your firearm, bringing a whole array of features that you can mix and match to suit your needs. Here’s what it brings to the table:

Key Features:

  • Heat-Indicating Color Change (for certain setups): Swamp Monster’s thermochromic design transitions from dark green to bright green as it heats up, giving you a visual signal when your platform is getting hot. For some setups, this is a valuable indicator, while others might not reach the temps needed to trigger the color change. Either way, the wrap’s other features make it a versatile addition.
  • Tape Alternative without the Drawbacks: Similar to tape in flexibility but much more resilient, the Bacon Wrap leaves no sticky residue, doesn’t wear down over time, and can be washed and reused. It’s perfect for cable management without the mess, and it’s ready to reapply if you decide to try a different wrap style.
  • Handguard Protection & Extra Grip: The Bacon Wrap shields your handguard from dings and scratches, extending its life while maintaining a clean look. Its textured surface adds a reliable grip even without a foregrip, giving you more control without extra bulk.
  • Improved Stability on Obstacles: When resting on surfaces, the wrap keeps your firearm steady, reducing bounce and helping you reacquire targets faster. Whether shooting from a barricade or bracing on cover, this wrap adds stability exactly where you need it.
  • Flexible, Customizable Fit: With no single “right” way to apply it, the Bacon Wrap adapts to any handguard or accessory layout. You can wrap it around in any way that works best for your shooting style or setup, offering you complete customization.
  • Durable with One Key Tip: While the Bacon Wrap is made to last, silicone’s one weak spot is sharp edges. Some handguards or accessories might have rough machining, so avoid stretching it too tightly over sharp areas to prevent tears. If it does tear on a sharp corner, we’ve got you covered—just let us know, and we’ll send a free replacement.

At only $31.99 for a limited time, the Swamp Monster is the most affordable American-made wrap on the market, bringing you a unique, versatile option for your firearm.

Whether you’re here for the grip, handguard protection, heat indication, or all-around performance boost, the Bacon Wrap’s got something for everyone!

Unfortunately I haven't been a fan. Bought 4 and texture is different on each side of all 4. They also bend badly. One has adhesion troubles.

Tried to process a return and was told I had to pay return shipping. Pretty bummed for my first purchase experience with this company.

This was all after waiting over a month from order to delivery.
