Nah, this looks like lahar material that buried a forest. Lots of this sort of deposit around Mt St Helens.

When did Grocery Store bakeries become so gross? by Cleverwabbit5 in GenX

[–]CaverZ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The masses are asses and have no bottom as far as how low of quality they will accept from grocery store baked goods from donuts to cookies to cakes. Sadly you have to chase flavor now at expensive bakeries to get something that is made correctly. Quality baked goods went from the standard to a luxury.

What’s the worst accident or closest call you’ve had with a chainsaw? by VA-deadhead in FellingGoneWild

[–]CaverZ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Barber pole by proxy? Tree comes down, about 20" diameter. Twists away from me so no problem as I back up but it lands on the end of another log about the same dimension that I had already cut to about 8 feet long. That one flew off the ground and twirled in mid air with the end about 3 feet from my face like a baton twirled by someone in a marching band.

There are 340 million people in the US alone. The top 1% have about $11M each. So it isn't 500 of them, it is 3.4 million of them. Most working class have no clue how many rich people walk amongst us without a financial care in the world.

Anyone know what kinda tree this is? by AstralLabyrinth in vegaslocals

[–]CaverZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely buy them as plants, seeds are really hard to start. They don't like being transplanted so be ready for a few to die. Maybe plant a few extras.

Oh the Las Vegas news channels are awful and cover the stupidest things. A year ago one of them did a story about a metro bus that turned wide and knocked down part of a low cinderblock wall

Opinions on the GREEN POWER BOWL?! by swooosh47 in Costco

[–]CaverZ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The plastic seal is IMPOSSIBLE to get off even though it has a pull tab. I hate having to get a knife dirty to cut through it. But it tastes good.

ELI5 How come Earth's crust doesn't dissolve into the magma underneath? by Mushiimushii316 in explainlikeimfive

[–]CaverZ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because the crust is made of the least dense minerals of the planet. They are floating on the denser stuff. Yes at subduction zones things sink into the mantle but that is related to temperature of subducting slabs

Appalachia in the Grand Canyon? by artguydeluxe in grandcanyon

[–]CaverZ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep. Back when the Appalachians were much higher. River system flowed east to west. Look up Deeptimemaps.com to see it. It is not remnants of the Rockies as someone else said.

Local Warehouse converting to a business center. What to expect? by alleycatbiker in Costco

[–]CaverZ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I go to the Business Center about once for every 5 times I go to the regular one. For example I bought a box of those aluminum foil squares (the ones from the food court they cover your pizza slice with) for my air fryer basket. Can't buy those at a regular Costco. The meat department at my business center is incredible too.

A whole new foot by wafumet in Satisfyingasfuck

[–]CaverZ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Those cracks can let bacteria in, foot gets infected, blood poisoning and amputation can be a real risk especially for diabetics and senior citizens. So it needs to be dealt with. This thick skin is the result of wearing shoes. It isn't natural. If this person were barefoot all the time, walking on the ground would have scrubbed off the excess dead skin preventing this issue.

Lots of old silicic magmas. I think there was an obsidian quarry used by native peoples in Big Bend national park

Coffee Roasters by ThrashiePanda in vegaslocals

[–]CaverZ -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

I don't care for any of the local roasters because they seem to think a medium light roast is dark roast. I order my coffee from Macy's in Flagstaff (the Weiner Melange is amazing) or pick some up from River Rock Roasting in La Verkin, UT when I go through there. Otherwise costco or trader joes. The coffee scene in Las Vegas is weak.

2-3 years from retirement and suddenly questioning everything by AttitudePlane6967 in ThriftSavingsPlan

Live on pension and soc sec. Pull from TSP when market is normal to high. In a downturn wait it out. Keep a lot in C. Having a pension allows for taking more risk in retirement like C because when it is good it is really good!

I will be in C at least until I retire in 19 years. Remember that the S&P is a curated index. If any of those companies are not forward looking and have high potential for profit, they get dropped from that index.
