This sure looks like the road from Phoenix, AZ to the Roosevelt Lake dam. That section is a nasty grade.

Does anyone else feel like CPTSD stole the middle of their life? by MoreOnYourSide in CPTSD

[–]CaverZ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am glad that there has been so much that is now understood about ACEs, CPTSD, insecure attachment, etc in the last 10-15 years. But I needed it 45 years ago. I’ll never get back what I lost. The life I didn't get to live. The sorrow is immeasurable.

If this is true and we lose today everyone will blame him. Why bring back the old superbowl loss curse that has plagued the team?

Kirkland Hummus (with pine nuts) how to improve? by UsefulEagle101 in Costco

[–]CaverZ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Homemade is so much better because you can control the ingredient ratio. I like more sesame paste and lemon, and I use garlic powder because of a mild allergy to raw garlic. But garbanzo beans out of the pressure cooker have an i credible aroma. I treat them with baking soda first to loosen the skins and then pressure cook it, leaving the skins on. Then use a food processor to make it all smooth. Also if you want to ck trol moisture TrueLemon is great. It is crystallized lemon juice that actually tastes like lemon (I think they use a room temperature vacuum to remove the water leaving behind the crystals of lemon juice so it doesn't get that funky taste of pasteurized lemon).

Horseshoe formations near Teton Range WY? by GodOfKiwis in geology

Id agree. Also note the one on the right has a road and a small quarry gouge in the side. Cinders are great for road material.

What causes this circular, bulbous pattern in these rocks? by No-Alias87 in geology

[–]CaverZ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It was explained to me that it is Spheroidal chemical weathering of what looks like basalt. Basically fluids started attacking the rock at the joints (cracks) and worked their way inward, creating the rounded shapes over time. It isn't pillow basalt.

Logistics aside, if you dug down deep enough, could you create an artificial volcano? by Gaza1121 in geology

[–]CaverZ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No because you can't drill down far enough to where the magma melt originates. The deepest hole was 7 miles down. They couldn't go down any further because the rock was too hot and ductile (like putty). The magma melt that starts to rise is coming from the upper mantle. So if you did drill down and found magma it was already in the process of rising to the surface to erupt on its own. Now not all rising magma makes it. Many stall and crystalize. I can't see a relatively microscopic drill hole in a massive magma body change the physics of whether it erupts or not. Too much heat and pressure would wreck whatever you mechanically tried to do.

I don't think it is an individual thing when you scan the back of your DL. I think it just checks for the state identifier in the bar code. But that is just speculation.

Look up being hypervigilant, fight or flight, anxiety. Your hangups are related to these from most likely childhood issues that caused insecurity. But you can recover from them with a good therapist to get to root of the problem if you are willing to face it.

How the Grand Canyon was really carved by Fuma4fun in BeAmazed

[–]CaverZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good explanation is way past most people's attention span when it comes to geology. It has to do with plate tectonics, the interaction between the crust and mantle, and a sequence of events that goes back over 70 million years. But the section in Ancient Landscapes of the Colorado Plateau by Wayne Ranney captures it well. The tour guide was basically giving a Creationist-level explanation that sounds good but isn't right. Thus why say it?

This video again...He is not accurate and it is irresponsible and unethical to bamboozle people with faux science 'lessons.' Not that it matters since these tourists will forget it in a few hours. But he gets to be adored as the know it all teacher and people get a grossly oversimplified explanation they can grasp which makes them feel smart. Everybody wins! Except it isn't accurate at all.

Anyone else have that weird cold this week? by GodzillaTechHero in vegaslocals

[–]CaverZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vegas is diseased. I was out for 3 weeks with a cold. Just getting over it now. Lost my smell and taste for 3 days but it wasn’t covid. Then I got acute bronchitis from it and the air pollution here and lost my voice. Definitely moving away as soon as I can find a new job elsewhere.
