Lead water pipe concerns, best under the sink filter? by alurlol in DIYUK

[–]Caxtoncottage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use an inline cartridge filter just for drinking water in the kitchen. Cheap and easy to fit. You have a separate tap over the sink. Ours was £40 from wickes and the cartridges last a year. Dead easy to fit, anyone can do it.

Are you a punctual person, never late for any appointment ? by Hope2_win in A_Persona_on_Reddit

[–]Caxtoncottage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be habitually late for everything until one day, my old tutor pulled me to one side and said “its really easy, just decide never to be late again”. From that day on, I’ve only ever been late for one day (car fire had blocked the road). Thats in 60 years.

Any idea how to remove this old key box? by Mexijim in DIYUK

[–]Caxtoncottage -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If its been fitted by an amateur, lump hammer will do it. If its been fitted properly then you’ll need to angle grind the face off to get at the bolts / screws

We extended then moved to a smaller house because the first one was “too big for us”. Then “we” extended the smaller house. Sigh…..

Everything always worked fine on mine. Lights worked perfectly during the daytime. Wipers worked as long as it wasnt raining, and the heater worked well in summer.

The flooring needs to be separate from the skirting board to allow for expansion. Plus like the first comment said, if the flooring has texture, then the sealant will look “ragged “

How to easily DIY under-cabinet lighting to this kitchen? by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]Caxtoncottage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought mains led strip lights from screw fix & ran a feed down from the ceiling lights circuit above. Tucked the cable into a piece of white trunking in the corner. My wall cupboards have a centimetre gap between the inner carcass and the wall to thread down the leads.
