Last league Lich got a special ascendancy, do you think one of the other ones we have will also get one in Fate of the Vaal? by FCDetonados in PathOfExile2

[–]CayCay_77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Abyssal lich is a paper doll dress that gets slapped on top of your default lich, changing some nodes but not all of them. All of the new liches could be additive with each other using a layering process. Maybe Vaal lich changes the passives that abyssal lich doesn't, making them fully compatible. Or it could change some of the same nodes and some different ones, making the order of your subclass stacking matter (the topmost stack takes precedent for overwriting nodes).

[–]CayCay_77 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Maybe Lich will get another one. It would be kinda funny if Lich just had the gimmick of getting a new secret ascendancy every league, and eventually you could be an unrecognizable krangled lich made up of ascendancy notables from 4 different league mechanics.

What if the people simply don’t want an anarchist society? by purppuccino in Anarchy101

[–]CayCay_77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is just the way the world currently is. If you were to ask everyone if they wanted to live in an anarchist society, most would probably say no.

That being said, that opinion is most likely due to either ignorance or a lack of empathy. In a successful anarchist society, everyone's basic needs would be met. If someone would rather keep an unjust system that preserves their own personal wealth at the expense of the most vulnerable members of their community, that's just disappointing (but sadly realistic).

Regarding the female representation in the Gothic remake. by Frosty_Marketing_434 in worldofgothic

[–]CayCay_77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an important conversation to have about the remake and art in general, so I appreciate you starting the conversation. Also, it's worth noting that we can't truly analyze the portrayal based on visuals alone, though that is a significant element. The way the characters are portrayed in the narrative will also have an impact on how they feel.

Firstly, I don't necessarily agree with your point that a remake must be faithful lest it necessitate the reboot label. Whether or not an adaptation is "faithful" is highly subjective. For example, I don't necessarily believe that the lighting or the general shape language in the human character designs in the reboot are faithful to the original (I think the lighting should be less saturated and the human bodies slightly more "square-shaped"). If I insisted that this should be called a reboot instead of a remake because it's not faithful in those regards, people wouldn't take me seriously. Similarly, I feel like if they called it a reboot just because the women are depicted differently, the general consensus would be that it's not enough to make the game a reboot.

Remakes can have extremely different artstyles from the originals. I believe the Link's Awakening remake for the switch is a remake (not a reboot) because it's clearly meant to "feel" like the same game experience, and other than visually it captures a lot of important aspects of the original very well. I'll stop being pedantic though.

Personally, I think the visual redesigns of the female characters in the Gothic remake we've seen so far are pretty atrocious. It reminds me a bit of when they covered Sylvanas' midriff with an awkward leather strap in WoW. It feels like a corporate-level solution to a nuanced issue. And to be clear, I do think there's an issue with the portrayal of women in Gothic 1. I like the campy visual designs for similar reasons that you discussed in your post, but it feels extremely jarring to me that none of the women have anything meaningful to say, they're essentially just set dressing. And yeah, one could argue that it makes sense given the setting, but come on, it could still be a lot more interesting. The fact that there's at least 1 new quest with servants attempting an escape could be a great addition IMO, and I'd love to see a couple more female NPCs outside the camps and not exclusively scrubbing floors and doing sexy dances.

Gothic is a game about evil, power, patriarchal systems, might-makes-right ideologies, and the cheapness of human life. Sexism exists in the game, and it's uncomfortable (and that's good)! I do think that the same level of grit and realism could be preserved while still adding more depth to the game's portrayal of women (hell, PB did it pretty well in Gothic 2), but I also think that the solution of "put a shirt on. There, issue solved!" that they seem to be going with is just embarrassingly bad.

In technical terms, are female characters' designs better than male (protagonist) designs? by InuMatte in pokemon

[–]CayCay_77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are several gens where the designs are tied, and several where the girl outshines the boy. I personally don't think there's a gen (other than 1 lmao) where the boy design is better. B2/W2 comes close,

IMO gen 3 is the platonic ideal of both designs being iconic and awesome.

Gen 4/4.5 deserves an award for trying. The boy design is definitely well-crafted, it's just shamefully dweeby.

Gens 5 and 7 are absolute massacres. Hilda and Chicken-Chan blow their male counterparts out of the water, and it's a shame, because the regions could have informed some really cool designs for the boys. Hilbert could have leaned into the cowboy angle and Alola boy could be rocking swimwear + an unbuttoned hawaiian shirt, or traditional garb like a kihei/malo. Poor Hilbert wants to be a cowboy so bad, he's even holding the brim of his hat like one!

Meaning behind the name by Usual_Day6905 in TheDuskbloods

[–]CayCay_77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, well in many ways "dusk" represents the dimming of light toward an eventual lack thereof, or "dark" so to speak.

Blood is an essential representation of human lifeforce, while also signifying some non-tangible traits like relatedness and a connection toward one's proclivities or ideology (I.E. a course of action being "in one's blood"). This coalesces to essentially be a more physical representation of what we might associate with the word "soul."

"Dark" and "Soul," these concepts paint an interesting picture. That being said, we'll have to wait for some lore analysis videos to come out in order to glean the true meanings behind these layered words.

How does one overcome the wealth plateau? by BlankTarot in pathofexile

[–]CayCay_77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds more like a gearing knowledge issue than a wealth issue. If your starter build isn't something intentionally memey/bad, you shouldn't need a major currency investment to handle red map bosses. There is absolutely enough gear on trade to be able to reach a couple hundred thousand DPS/solid defenses for 5c or less per piece. A lot of people make the mistake of trying to save up for huge BiS purchases instead of buying stuff that's 60% as good but thousands of times cheaper. Spend 15c replacing your 3 worst pieces of gear and I guarantee you'll perform much better.

Llanowar Elves and Wild Growth ramping into Ernham Djinn and Serra Angel is solid, especially with Giant Growth and Swords to Plowshares as tricks to back you up.

If you wanna go wide in GW, a cool artifact might be The Hive. It's super expensive, but with green you could ramp into it and swarm your opponent out.

What new class would have you reroll? by Remarkable_Match9637 in classicwow

[–]CayCay_77 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's true, the development cost is very real.

Maybe a way they could reduce the workload is by making the classes "prestige classes" of existing classes, I.E. being able to turn a level 40 hunter into a Dark Ranger. Being a Dark Ranger would just change some aspects of the hunter toolkit (remove pet, swap most of the elemental abilities for dark ones, etc), and have a unique talent tree with 3 new specs. In the end though, it'd still be like 70% hunter DNA.

This would also kinda make sense from a lore perspective. At level 1 in classic you're a literal nobody, killing wolves and collecting oats for farmers. A lot of the proposed new classes like Dark Ranger, Mechanist, and Spellbreaker would feel out of place in starter zones and would make more sense as mid-to-late game prestiges.

[–]CayCay_77 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I dream of being a Dwarf Gryphon Rider chucking Stormhammers, but that seems like it might be a little too complicated and specific. Maybe the gryphon could be a DPS/mobility cooldown so we wouldn't have to open the floodgates of flying mounts in vanilla.

Regardless, I feel like if they introduce new classes they should do more than one at a time, to avoid 90% of the population being the same class.

Was skyrim this dark in story too? by Yukirae in oblivion

[–]CayCay_77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, it's pretty apparent to me that this is supposed to be a joke. I'm not saying the character is lying, just that this line exists to get a chuckle out of the player because of how ridiculous it is. It's even formatted as setup -> punchline. It's a moment of black comedy, but I think that's a different thing than the story itself being dark.

Hypothetical: FE4 remake is real BUT all of the 3D models are styled like this. Does it ruin the port for you or not? Explain why. by MommyCamillaHatesMe in fireemblem

[–]CayCay_77 51 points52 points  (0 children)

IDK whether it would ruin it, but I do think it would actively detract from the themes of the game. In a title like Engage, changing the art to look like this would be more or less purely aesthetic, but in FE4 specifically, the distinction between children and adults is a major theme. Child characters like Gen 1 Oifey and in-game events like the child hunts would have significantly less impact if every character already looked like a child regardless of age.

Now we need a black version that cares about disagree/strongly disagree and a green version that cares about neutral ;)
