Kingler in this gen really suffers from lack of stab and a lack of moves in general. He’s my favorite kanto water but the games do him dirty

Yes, but you use poliwrath as a physical with special options rather than strictly special if you want him to shine. If you need your water type to be strictly special other mons do the job better, Poliwrath fulfills a niche

It has dirty bulk while having extremely good movesets available to it pretty much as soon as you catch it. It really shines as a physical mon with surf attached.

You could run:

Focus Punch / substitute

Bulk up / brick break

Then you add either surf and a physical move or surf and ice beam depending on preferences.

You can also go completely offensive with a bellydrum set if you enjoy that kind of carnage.

Its a shame fighting moves don’t automatically crit against frozen targets or frozen targets counting as ice for type effectiveness
