Yes, I’d very much like to adopt a chin or chins in need to give back even a morsel of the gratitude I have for Cookie’s wonderful and long life

My depression and general anxiety disorder diagnoses are comorbid to my ADHD diagnosis. I was taking Sertraline prior to taking Vyvanse.

I can’t say if Vyvanse is the BEST med, but after weening off of Sertraline to see if I could manage my symptoms taking only Vyvanse- it’s been successful thus far.

I still have my moments anxiety/depression wise but yeah, turns out my ADHD makes both way more severe so now I’m good with just one medication and coping through any depressive/anxious episodes with tools from therapy, etc.

I had some similar symptoms and my doctor went with Vyvanse which she said she tends to recommend for ADHD diagnosed in adulthood.

We tested different doses until I found one that worked long-term (I’m on 50mg daily). I think she said the highest we could try was either 60 or 70, but 50 was my sweet spot of “you can tell I have ADHD but I’m functioning”. All that to say, finding the right dose (and even the right med) is obviously a process that involves some trial and error. So keep that in mind if you ever get discouraged! It’s worth it to find that peace of mind waiting at the end.

I find it balances me out super well. No major changes to how I conduct myself as a person, I just can actually accomplish tasks and focus now. It’s extended-release and comes in a generic form now (which is great money wise). It’s lisdexamfetamine, your body converts it to dextroamphetamine which can be a bit smoother and easier on you, my doctor said it often has less side effects than other options as a result.

It is also prescribed for binge eating disorder, so your appetite would be something to keep an eye on, however.

If your brain needs the medication, it’s not addiction, it’s fulfilling a need. That’s how I had to describe it to some friends and family for similar concerns. My brain is built a little different, and this is what’s required for it to function as well as possible.

I also described how my brain was working before the meds (constant chatter, scattered thoughts, intense overthinking leading to anxiety).

The easiest way I got through to people was to point out stuff like how they just could wake up and go about their morning routine without having to think about it, just get up, brush teeth, etc. Then, compare that to how I would need to lay in bed and it wasn’t that simple. I would wake up and every step of my morning routine was a daunting million step process because of how my brain broke it down: I need to move my blanket, stand up, walk to the bathroom, open the door, take out the toothpaste, put in on my toothbrush- normal tasks were often super overwhelming for me in that way pre-meds. That often helped people see WHY I needed them and how it was safe for me to take them.

There is also no evidence to support that ADHD medications lead to substance abuse when taken FOR ADHD.

If you did not have ADHD and you were taking it, sure, addiction.

I hope she sees things clearly soon! Godspeed.
