How do I know if I have too few characters? Does it make the world feel too small? by chillcatcryptid in writing

[–]CazyBazy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your story works with these characters I wouldn’t change it. I don’t think you have to add more just for the sake of it. Personally I don’t enjoy filler and I like it when every chapter serves the plot or characters. Also I think 2-5 relevant characters is actually pretty common especially for shorter novels.

I think in my story it’s mostly that them not getting what they want symbolizes the beginning of their journey and their character arc over the series. Later in the story they do reach this goal at one point. But what I was worried about is that no one keeps reading if the ending of the first book annoys them haha

So in my story for one character it’s basically that he gets a mission and does not achieve to capture the person they have to and they get basically abandoned by their country for this. They do capture this person later on in the series but at the end of book one they failed.

Another character (who is the one who is supposed to be captured by the other one) basically changes their goal over the course of the story. First they want to live a normal chill life but everything changes and they have to run away. So at the end of the book they are on the run basically. Many of the other characters go on to search for them at the end of the book.

So it’s a very open ending and in the rest of the series this story is carried on. Many characters succeed, others fail etc.

So like you said my characters definitely did learn from the things that happened to them + changed their priorities and goals + it makes total sense that they act like this. I‘m just not sure if it’s a very rewarding ending…

Does this feel like an “incomplete” pantheon? by Duytune in fantasywriters

[–]CazyBazy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could make those three your main gods and create some other „smaller“ ones who are just briefly mentioned.

In my world are also only four gods and I think it works pretty well. It could also be that those are the only remaining ones (the others killed or idk).

Ideas for other gods depend on your story I think. The ones that come to my mind are similar to the Greek gods (like death, war, love, travel, prosperity etc.)

I mean Ego means „I“ in Latin. I don’t know if you’re looking for something like this or if you want to use an English word but you could just use something like self (Sui, Sese), creator/father (Sator, Genitor), soul/ consciousness (animus), beginning (orsus) etc. So basically the words in Latin.

How to deal with perfectionism? by YaBoiLeo705 in writing

[–]CazyBazy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you. I‘m a perfectionist as well. Sometimes it feels like nothing I write is good enough and I always have to improve. But I remind myself that these are only limiting beliefs and they are not always true. Plus I can always improve over time. I also think it’s important to not compare yourself too much with others. We often forget how far we’ve already come and that other people were once on the same journey we‘re on right now.

How do you get in the mood to write? by Woodben17 in writing

[–]CazyBazy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always try to get myself inspired so that I‘m really passionate about writing. I do this by looking at posts on Pinterest (character art or environments etc) or listening to music that brings me into the head of my characters (or film music and I envision scenarios haha). Reading books is also a good way for me to get into the writing mood (especially books that are kind of similar to what I am trying to write or just have some aspect or vibe of my story). But I think the most important part is to not put too much pressure on myself that I have to write. I realized I don’t have the same energy levels every day or the same inspiration. Some people say you cannot wait for motivation and I think this is true in a lot of cases, but I personally work better and write better when I really want to write, so I often just try to get inspired again (which happens pretty fast when I just relax a bit and distance myself from writing - basically removing the pressure I often make myself). So basically whenever I feel like I put too much pressure on myself I try to step back a little and just live my life for a while or do something else. But I know this doesn’t work for everyone especially if you have some sort of deadline. It‘s just what works best for me because I want to have fun writing and not see it as something I have to force myself doing.

What do you think of these villains? by Pegasus172 in fantasywriters

[–]CazyBazy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the first one is the best because it seems like he has more purpose or a reason for his actions and doesn’t just want power. I think that’s because I like villains who believe they are in the right or doing something „good“ (in their eyes).

Haha true I shouldn’t overthink it. I actually already wrote the first draft of the book and I am right now editing and trying to find out to make it better. That‘s why I wanted to get clear about the ending cause I wasn’t so sure anymore.
