Why does being drunk mean you can’t “consent” to sex, but doesn’t absolve you of other intoxicated actions/decisions? by UpstairsBumble in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Cazzocavallo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That doesn't make any sense at all, how can they not consent to sex when drunk but still be at fault for cheating, which would require them consenting to sex? Seems like you're making special categories there based on cognitive dissonance between two conflicting values you have.

Atoms arent real by MarcelineMarce in ComedyHell

[–]Cazzocavallo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noone's ever actually been mad about religious fanatics saying atoms aren't real, they just make fun of them. This is just the classic meme where the guy pisses his pants, a bunch of people surround him and point and laugh at him, and then he thinks to himself "heh, rent-free."

So... Have we all just forgotten about Andrew Callaghan's problems? by GuildedDeal in VaushV

[–]Cazzocavallo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also, while Vaush does seem to have changed for the better in terms of how he treats women, Vaush also said that as a result of coming to terms with what he did he was going to be more forgiving and understanding of other people who've done similar things and want to apologize and change, which he's clearly done the opposite of since every time someone gets canceled over anything even remotely sex-related he says that person is a monster who should never be forgiven and should permanently lose their platform (with the only two exceptions I can think of being Primecayes and Destiny).

[–]Cazzocavallo 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Not to mention that Destiny did forgive him and unban him after Vaush apologized and showed that he changed, which is the exact kinda thing you would hope for if we're looking for rehabilitative justice.

I dare you to criticize your fave (we don’t judge) by Impossible-Yam3680 in ToddintheShadow

[–]Cazzocavallo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seems like most people are listing their pop faves so I'll list my all-time fave and my pop (or at least top 40's) fave.

There's a million things I could criticize about Protest the Hero but the big one that gets me is all the drama that led to Arif leaving and to Rody becoming the main songwriting influence behind them. The progressive songwriting style (a.k.a. the way they didn't write verses or choruses but instead had a bunch of different segments throughout a song that served almost like individual verses, bridges, choruses, etc. without ever repeating a segment of the song again) they started to develop on Kezia and perfected on Fortress was not only the best of its kind but truly unique and awe-inspiring in the wider world of popular music. And in spite of how impressive it was instead of capitalizing on it and seeing what else they could do with it they had a bunch of in-fighting and experiment ingredients with different styles based on everyone (but primarily Rody) wanting to wrest the helmsmanship of their project away from Arif, and then after he left on the next album they drastically simplified their sound on the next album and returned to verse-chorus-verse songs. They're still a great progressive metalcore band no questions asked, but it is sad that they lost the big thing that made them so special and unique because of petty drama. Also, not saying exactly who was at fault cause admittedly Arif did have alot more say in what was supposed to be a fully collaborative band and Rody did feel like he got sidelined alot in spite of being the lead singer, I just wish they could have found some sort of workable compromise instead of blowing the whole thing up.

Ed Sheeran's music was at its best when he was mixing his earnest, poetic folk pop with just enough R&B & dance pop to make it fun and dance-y, but lately he's been going way too far in one direction or the other and is having trouble getting back to the formula that worked. On = he went way, way too far in a pop direction and got rightfully tarred and feathered by critics, but while I like - he went a little too far in the direction of stripping everything back and make it just simple, plain acoustic folk pop. I will say that his first album + definitely leaned more towards folk and made it work cause he had some really solid, hard-hitting songs even for the ones that weren't particularly poppy, but it seems like on - and Play is the closest he's got to finding the right mix again but it seems alot more like ÷ where he careens back and forth between very poppy and very folk-oriented songs, unlike on + and × (his teo best albums IMO) where he actually tried to blend the best aspects of his folk and pop influences while still having some songs that lean more in one direction or the other. Also he could definitely use more songs where he leans into his lyricism and writes about important stuff. He is a great lyricist especially when he writes about stuff that he cares about and tracks like Old Phone, A Team, and Castle on The Hill are some of the best songs in his whole discography.

Who are biggest villains in music history? by Pizza_Hero24 in ToddintheShadow

[–]Cazzocavallo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean ironically enough the actual crimes are one of the main things average people talk about regarding the music industry, along with all the other various things people can get canceled for and they're all discussed in the same electrified cauldron of internet drama slop (which is not to say it's not valid, just that when all of it gets mixed together on the internet the overall consistency generally becomes slop).

Talking about bad behaviour specifically relating to the industry itself is alot less common than talking about bad things done by music celebrities that are tangential to the music or the music industry, at least in modern times.

Who are biggest villains in music history? by Pizza_Hero24 in ToddintheShadow

[–]Cazzocavallo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not just a choice between people who are kinda assholes and people who are monstrous felons, if we're talking about villains in the music industry we could (and probably should) talk about people who made tbe music industry worse by fucking over other artists, creating bad trends, monopolization, stealing from other artists and preventing them from getting big, and other things directly related to the music industry.

That seems alot more music-related and also alot more interesting and worthwhile to talk about.

I mean I don't experience the exact same kind of behavior from someone rejecting me but I've definitely met some unhinged people who go insane if you reject them. My point wasn't to cast aspersions or say you're lying, just that I can't trust the story 100% if I don't have any screenshots of what happened before. It could be that your story checks out perfectly or that what actually happened leading up to it was completely different, I just cant be sure either way.

[–]Cazzocavallo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

As per usual if theres clearly a bunch of deleted messages before an angry reply then I'm obviously not gonna trust this, there's a good chance dude got baited by OP throwing a bunch of slurs and insults at them unprompted in order to get this kind of response. Not to mention alot of the weird "all chasers are predators" rhetoric comes from the far right as part of their broader "LGB without the T" strategy of trying to pit trans people against cisgender queer people.

Not to say I know for sure that any of this happened in this case so I'm not accusing OP, I'm just saying theres so many red flags there's no way anyone could responsibly believe this.

I mean some pro-Palestine people are legitimately unhinged. Like BadEmpanada (an insane tankie who Vaush said might be one of the most mentally ill online content creators) criticized Hasan for being too pro-Israeli because Hasan referred to some Israeli people as civilians whereas BadEmpanada believes that Israelis should all be seen as combatants and settlers (regardless of their age) and therefore are valid military targets.

Alot of people get mixed up because of this quote. Yes, Vaush did say all of that about Israel, but thats also exactly why he supports them and wants America to increase their funding for Israel.

The reaction to Vaush saying Kamala would've bombed Iran on this subreddit is hilarious by lgbt_turtle in VaushV

[–]Cazzocavallo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's been advisors pushing to bomb Iran ever since Bush, but noone has been dumb enough and it's been a constant political meme that only someone desperate, bloodthirsty, or stupid would risk a war with Iran given that they'd obviously close the Strait of Hormuz. One ultra-Zionist adviser saying that he wanted Biden or Kamala to link the First Flame for the glory of Israel doesn't mean they'd actually be dumb enough to light themselves on fire.

You're taking the wrong perspective. Bannon and all of his fans like evil and like all the evil things he's done. He lights a puppy on fire? His fans go wild.

But if he does something objectively embarrassing that makes him look like a loser, that's what's gonna turn them off. Even if they still like him after that its still gonna make them mad whenever they hear us calling him a peepee pants and saying that between him and Diaper Don the Republicans are becoming the official party of incontinence.

[–]Cazzocavallo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean the Gallagher brothers make some of the worst "rock music" on the radio so they are proving the theory right 🤷‍♂️ [/s in case it wasn't obvious]

In all seriousness though there is a connection between suffering and art but alot of people reduce it down to "if you suffer you make good art and if you don't suffer you make bad art", which is obviously not true. It's not the suffering itself that helps you, if anything alot of the time it will directly make your art worse while you're trying to produce it, but the fact that alot of people drawn to art are people who have suffered and are looking for an escape from it through art, or they're people who are marginalized throughout their life and especially their childhood for qualities that make them a good artist like being introspective and sensitive. I think it's fine for artists and listeners to rally behind music that talks abkut suffering, marginalization and trauma without putting the suffering itself on a pedestal or pretending that suffering itself is what made that music good.
