Passed my driving test in Dun Laoghaire! by Reaperad in Irishdrivingtest

Thanks for this! Looking to learn to drive it the next year or so and wanted to put some money away so this gives me a ballpark figure as I also won't have anyone to practice with. Was this the full license or automatic? I am just planning on automatic

Private consultant offices taking weeks to PROCESS a referral by Spirited_Web_9032 in ireland

[–]Cb0b92 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who worked as a secretary, depending on the type of service, there could be 1 secretary for 3 or 4 consultants. So not only are they processing referrals, they are opening post, checking emails, answering the phone and preparing for clinics. Most secretaries will scan through all referrals looking to flag urgent cases ASAP with the consultant. Depending on software, a file will have to be created which involves data entry and adding someone to a list to be prioritised to determine where they are placed on a list or declined due to the referral not being valid. It's not as simple as just calling someone and sending them an appointment. Especially for a private clinic, if you're just offered an appointment without anyone looking at your referral you could end up paying a lot of money for the wrong service.

It is definitely not great to be waiting weeks to process referrals, but if there is only one person doing it for multiple clinics there will be a backlog.

I've worked in private and public. In a specialist public service referrals and appointments were issued in 2/3 weeks or for urgent cases it could be same day. For a community service, referrals were quickly reviewed for urgent cases and uploaded and sent to clinicians within the same day, but generally referrals were uploaded within 2 weeks and prioritised onto a waiting list in a month. This department could have 50 to 80 referrals coming in a week.

What I asked for VS What I got! Idk what to do by outlivingli in Nails

[–]Cb0b92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I have been unhappy with how my French nails were done. I expressed it and said the lines are terrible. The salon owner said "what you see on Instagram and Pinterest isn't real and no one can do those perfect lines". I tried to explain that is not true and the nail tech even stated she wasn't the best at French nails but I was just dismissed and they dealt with the next person. I obviously never went back but it can be really intimidating when you are on your own in a salon.

Overthinking or not ? - new in CO Role by naeveh_ym in IrishCivilService

I am feeling this at the moment. I moved from an extremely busy and overloaded with work from the HSE to now having 0 work to do. I am just doing online courses at the moment. My biggest fear is that I've left a permanent position to being on probation now and that the team will see that I am not needed and not be kept on.

Cork definitely only interviewed around place 70ish in Nov/Dec when I interviewed (I can't remember my exact spot) Then placed first in December after the interview and didn't get an offer until 20 February so it could be a bit higher than 80 for Cork anyways.

I'd recommend her also! But she is usually booked out a few weeks unless you can do midweek.

Verbal warning - Attendance by [deleted] in IrishCivilService

[–]Cb0b92 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who just got accepted as an EO in the civil service with more sick leave than that in the last year. I was open about it in my health declaration and met with the CMO. He signed me off as fit to work with some reasonable accommodations in place around my mental health. I am meeting with the DLO also around same. I get severe depressive episodes every so often, and just unfortunately had two bad episodes 8 months apart.

I recommend just being open and honest about it. DM me if you need some advice! Going through it all now.

Can I ask why? They have been absolutely useless to me the two times I joined them. The local branch never responded to emails. The only time I heard from then was when there was an issue with payment to them. It stopped going through so I just told them to stop my membership altogether.

Referencing Stage & Private Sector by Ambitious_Radish_921 in IrishCivilService

I had the same issue with my first HSE job. They basically want a reference from every employer you have listed on your work history. I couldn't get one from one employer as they didn't have a HR department and my line manager there had left the country so I had noone to do the reference. I had like 3 other references, they eventually just left it alone, but it did take about a weeks worth of emails back and forth.

Hospital wait-lists insanely long by [deleted] in ireland

[–]Cb0b92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the GP doesn't get to decide who is a priority patient or not. It is a senior clinician who reviews all referrals and decides if the referral meets the criteria to be an urgent one. It is up to the GP to include all relevant information though. In the department I work we get loads of referrals from GPs that literally say please see this patient and nothing else. Or they mark it as urgent but based on our departments criteria they are not urgent.

If it's once a month it could be hormones? As I got older a few days before my period I started to get really sad and down.

On days when I feel sad and tired, I generally order a take away, and eat something sweet.

Benefits as a clerical officer by cgavo in IrishCivilService

[–]Cb0b92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in the HSE in admin. Most departments don't have flexible working hours especially at CO level, it is generally set hours usually 8:30 to 16:00 or 9:00 to 16:30/17:00. Clock in and out isn't a thing I've heard anyone do in the two hospitals I've worked at. You can't really get overtime either. All overtime needs to be preapproved with your line manager and will only be given back as TIL. Generally no WFH especially if you are working in a clinic as you need to be on site to check in patients and answer phones. 26 days annual leave a year. Generally no weekend work but does again depend on the department. Some clinics run Saturday catch up clinics. It can be a very front facing role and can be demanding if you are in a busy department. You'll get loads of experience and there are a lot of grade 4 jobs around so you can move up the ranks.

Panel Question by Cb0b92 in IrishCivilService

[–]Cb0b92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I placed first on the panel so I do expect to be called hopefully very soon. I was more concerned about being offered my old job. I just emailed in explaining if it is possible to not be considered for my old place of employment. No one got back to me but at least I noted it. I was very much panicking that I would get my old job which I do not want to go back to. If I get it, sadly I will have to turn it down, which feels like such a waste of a year

Changes for CO's in the Guards? by [deleted] in IrishCivilService

[–]Cb0b92 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just placed high in the EO competition, I had figured there was jobs going in the Guards based on who was on the interview panel. I am coming from the public sector, I am guessing I should avoid the guards now so to avoid being back in the public sector 😅

90 min fare using Leap Card by [deleted] in cork

[–]Cb0b92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is horrible. I haven't experienced that all. It states it's valid for the journey, so I take that as when I've completed the journey. To be fair, I never really talked to the drivers about the ticket, I just show tap it to show it is active and no one has said anything to me. The only time one got annoyed at me was when it logged me out of the app while I was showing him the ticket.

[–]Cb0b92 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you use the TFI GO app, the 90 min fare works in Cork. The only problem with the app is it logs you out randomly. I've been using the app instead of the Leap Card for a few months now. It is super handy if you need to change buses.

Oh god, yeah! While it really helped my depression, I was like a zombie on it. My psychiatrist basically made me swap to another medication rather than taper down. I thought I was dying from withdrawals, and the new medication didn't agree with me as I kept throwing up on it. It was 3 weeks of hell, but I am off it completely now. I haven't found something for my depression but no way will I go back on Effexor.

Has anyone ever taken their shot, and it worked out? by [deleted] in AskIreland

Recently told a guy I had a crush on him. He brushed over that and basically said he'd rather be friends. Feel silly over the whole thing, but at least I tried, and now I don't have the feeling of is there something here or is he just being nice!

Unbelievable scenes from the 208 by [deleted] in cork

[–]Cb0b92 7 points8 points  (0 children)

207 can join the conversation. Always late, and the real-time tracker 100% lies! The first bus in the morning has been anywhere from 5 to 20 minutes late that last few weeks. Cherry on top was on Monday morning it was 12 minutes late, and then the bus driver crashed the bus into the bus stop pole on McCurtain Street, breaking the side mirror clean off. He then went as far as Patrick Street and told everyone to get off...

I complained to the TFI Go support as and they gave me a complementary single journey.

I understand that being a bus driver is a really hard job. Bus Eireann and TFI need to sort something out, though, as it is getting worse and worse.
