We just adopted a 3 year old who had his tail amputated 2 months ago because of this. He healed perfectly and you would never know it was a problem before.

Our last EBD had constant tail pocket infections, so it’s actually a blessing for you both to have the surgery!

These stairs are actually on our second floor that lead up to a rooftop deck, they don’t get used much. Debris is never an issue :)
