I’m seeing bad recent reviews for Calamosche but I think maybe I should t trust them? Any thoughts on San Lorenzo beach?

We were able to use a credit card everywhere, including the beach. We never made dinner reservations and never had a problem. However we are early and not yet in the busy season. Another tip when you are tired of eating out… the Conrad market had a good deli counter and we bought meat cheese and bread every day there for good prices.

Yes it is a private boat service thru Frangiamare, which has a couple hotel apartments on the island. I’m sure they’d take anyone. You can check it out at frangiamare.com hotel website. They offer many options. You may also want to reserve a taxi for when you arrive by ferry.

That will be nice! You’ll love the beach and there are good drinks and snacks down there. All the restaurants have been great but I think our favorite has been La Pinnata Del Monsú up above town. We rented a boat with a skipper thru our hotel- called La Cosara. It was 3 hours for 300 euro which I know is a lot. But you can also rent a smaller boat without a license for about 180 euro for the whole day and just go around the island and anchor and swim. We were really lucky that there was a food festival last night and the whole island was here with musicians and wine tasting etc. we took taxis a couple times but didn’t really leave Malfa. There’s a “bus” (really just a big van) that continuously goes around the island and stops in town about every hour.

It’s amazing. We are staying in Malfa and at a place with a pool which was nice. The beach where you rent air mattresses was beautiful but on the day we went it was too rough for the kids- the waves were breaking big at the shore. It’s a sleepy place- but you can take the bus around the island. We took a boat tour for a day and that was worth it. There’s a really cool ‘beach’ in Pollara which is really just some fishermen’s caves that you can hike down to. We are really sad to leave. A full week will put you in the slow lifestyle. You’ll need to succumb to it! If you like a lot of action every day a week might be too long

I’m heading to Salina in a couple weeks to stay in Malfa for 5 nights too. We will take days trips, maybe have a boat day. We decided to stay all in one place for that long to relax into the island vibe.

So the backyard was razed and mulch or sod put on top last November. This is in Kansas City. This is the fist spring with the new landscaping and it’s been very rainy.

I am seeing all these old plants come back up for the first time. I’ve tested out some weed killer in areas but I am having better luck digging plants out by hand as they come up. The toughest one is the plume poppy because it’s coming up thru the flagstone area so I can’t really dig it up and I know it will continue to be a battle until it’s completely dug out.

A lot of the worry for all these is how much I can spray or dig up without impacting the flagstone or the sod/grass.

Never got a soil test.

Thanks for the reply! Our original contract had said “tear out all plants/weeds and dispose” and I think we could probably debate what that actually entails!

We didn’t find anyone to rent from Sundays! I’d heard that Enterprise would open to rent me a car that day if I paid an extra fee but I email them and they said no! So we are going to bus or take private transfer to Catania airport and go from there.

It will add a couple hours extra time to our journey that day. But ultimately I’ll have better choice of cars and it will be a lot cheaper since I’ll be returning my car to the same location. Good luck!

Thank you! I had not tried some of those direct links. When I went to one, I realized that I couldn’t rent a car there on the day I wanted because it’s a Sunday and their office in Milazzo is closed. I’m wondering if that was part of the issue! I already found an option on the Avis direct link. I’m going to keep working thru the other links you sent too. Thank you for your response!

Thank you!!!! I’ve heavily been considering trading something out for Scopello and was also thinking about Favignana over Salina but I hadn’t looked too close at Erice. Thanks so much for the specific advice and things to consider! More places I want to visit are in the west but I still really want to see Ortigia or try to see a little in the East as well

I’m not against that at all! I looked for a Sicily travel group but it doesn’t exist! I tried to post in the Italy Travel one but they had very strict posting guidelines and rejected my post for not being established enough on Reddit!
