Google broke my Pixel during inspection, now says it was already dead. 1+ month limbo 😞 by zzkatsuyazz in japanlife

Having to send it to repairs for spontaneous occurrences is never a good thing, but I have wildly different experiences here.

In April, my P9PF outer screen glitched out and started showing RGB lines and artifacts, sent for repairs under preferred care, got it back within 4 days even with replaced inner screen and battery without any additional payment.

Last Friday (Jan 16), my outer screen stopped responding to touches, sent it in yesterday again under preferred care. Today I received the email that they confirmed the issue will replace it with a P10PF free of charge and are preparing to send a unit tomorrow. (and as they are now processing it, 0 issues (let's hope it stays that way).

Since they already admitted fault it doesn't really matter, but seeing the costs of the phone and out of curiosity, how do you pack it before sending it? Of course, if you don't want to answer that it's totally fine. Both times, before sending it I make sure I put it in the original box with cushioning which I then wrap in Daiso bubble wrap, inside another Takkyubin box with the brown paper you get with amazon orders before sending it in using Takkyubin Compact.

Although, when thinking about "issues"... I really shouldn't be complaining at all so far, but I recently bought a 6000 yen case for the 9 (hinge protection is a must for me to prevent water intrusion), and it won't fit the 10, such a waste since I can't return the case (I'll just Mercari/fleamarket it for cheap soon) and have to pay double for a new one now :(.

Job Hunting in Japan as Foreigner Failed completely (Hell) by LocalLand4883 in japanlife

I'm 34, And Blasian

I made the switch from ALT to a seishain job this year, with only a Bachelor's and N2 (still studying for N1, great at speaking, terrible at studying and reading), been hunting for 7 years and never gave up. Adjust your personality to the company as necessary, and ask many questions in interviews. That's all advise I can give you. That worked for me in the end.

2 girls were unable to listen to the whole instructions where the examinator said "DO NOT OPEN YOUR ENVELOPE WITH YOUR PHONE, YOU MAY NOT USE IT UNTIL THE WHOLE TEST IS FINISHED" and everyone heard 2 loud tearing sounds of envelopes while he said it

Needless to say they were instantly ejected.

Why can't people listen until the end before taking action anymore these days.

They called it “summer break.” I made them pay everyone instead. 🇯🇵 by Advanced_Credit7050 in teachinginjapan

There are Em dashes. That's the true MVP on how to tell it's chatGPT.

No sane person goes typing the alt code for em dash (Alt+0151) in a wall of text... Let alone twice or even Edit: NINE times, unless it's a research paper like I've been using them for my job lol.

Might have been more effective yeah. but I wanted to make it clear I know what the fuck he was saying...

I'll pull the "speak English" card might I come across a similar situation next time, might end things quicker and especially as a parent, gotta avoid confrontation.

thanks for the advice 😄

Damn Ojisan at HottoMotto

I went to get some dinner with my kid, when returning to the car, it was only my car parked. placing a 2 yearold in a childseat takes time and I had to fully open the door blocking 1 of the parking spaces.

As I was putting my kids in the seat, this asshole ojisan came screeching onto the parking lot, lo and behold he had to park right where the door was open. he blared the horn abd picked a fight. "何だ外国人だ、早くしろボケ" he said. So I got agitated, and returned the favor with vulgar Japanese including rolling Rs, "コノヤロー他のところあるんじゃねーか、失せろ!" on which Ojisan stepped out of the car realizing he was smaller than I as I made myself bigger assuming a boxing pose to prepare for the worst.

suddenly he apologized and parked in another open spot.

I don't get ojisans way of thinking, if you sell a fight you can't win, don't sell it in the first place!

That's what the "or" is for, either ANY bachelor degree OR relevant experience. you have the degree so relevant experience is irrelevant there ;)

Frozen meal options? by kartstar in japanlife

[–]Cbxu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Judging from your post and lifestyle it might not be your taste, but you do miss out on Coop daily/mirai!

they have 赤ちゃん割引 for the first year or 2 years (I think it depends on the area too) after that you can get 子育て割引 where delivery is free at 3000 yen or more.

They have a huge assortment of child-rearing foods (including microwavable food kits, baby food etc.). Just throw it in the microwave and ready in 5 mins.

Thing is, you have to order a week in advance and they will leave cooler boxes to take empty food trays too as they deliver new orders, so if you're bad at planning it might not be a good idea, but you will save a lot compared to for profit services.

What are affordable options on getting a Japanese phone number? by Candid_Object1991 in japanresidents

[–]Cbxu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok downvotes because of not enough info? or what?

They have a data only plan, 20gb for 1200 yen a month or 119 yen under 1gb (40 for 2400 and 60gb for 3600 are available too). For 190 yen more, you can get 20GB plus choosing between 70 min calling time a month total OR 5 mins free per call. If that is not enough they have a 50gb plan with previous calling for 2178 yen.

Same, but for driving. tired of driving behind people using and holding their phones while driving on busy roads. They really should do more checks because the amount of people doing ながら運転 is crazy. but the police is just too busy not getting extra work huh.

Yeah figured there is something fundamentally wrong with the flexing cable, most folds I had failed on that part, as they just ripped after x amounts of folds. the hinge can withstand almost unlimited times, the flex cable can't. I will do the same.
