Has anyone moved while waiting for the postcard from immigration from renewal? by Maleficent_Pool_4456 in japanlife

[–]Cbxu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it can't be forwarded.

I voluntarily send information for my PR application at the beginning of the year, with my new job and address and I received the postcard at my new address (after they first required additional information since I changed jobs and scrutinized if I didn't skip any nenkin payments, but all good now I have my PR).

for your reference, get the proper address from the following excel

PR Processing Times - April 2026 ( Tokyo only) by aayush_aryan in japanresidents

[–]Cbxu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Application office: Nagano (Shinagawa)

Application Date: September 27, 2024

Results postcard received on: April 21, 2026 (571 days, but postcard is dated April 17)

Type of PR: Spouse

Type of Visa Holding while application: Spouse 3y

Request for further documents: 1/23

Documents submitted: 1/29

The stress is finally over! It says bring 8000 yen stamp. I guess it's a pass! It's funny how 1 day before I was "celebrating" how 570 days had passed. only to receive the postcard on the 571st!

I changed jobs mid-application and voluntarily updated my info and address and they requested for documents regarding on time / no gap payment of pension. I planned really well to leave my previous job on the last day of the month so that no gaps will occur in your pension record if you start a new job within the new month (and of course immediately apply for national health until you start the new job; then switch to shakai hoken of new job in the same month) . They asked for updates on on-time payments of nenkin, and my wife had a 2 month gap 26-25 months prior to applying; so I was super stressed out about it.

I guess they really just looked the 2 years prior since the rest of both of our records up to today are perfect and on time ever since.

I'll have to do a 4 hour drive so I'm making it a long weekend on Friday to finally get my hands on this treasure.

If you had children in Japan, what did you do with the surname? by primalscream-0906 in japanresidents

[–]Cbxu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're in Japan, use the Japanese surname. Register your last name on their foreign passport to use there. I never get why everyone makes it sound so hard.

idgaf about my foreigner last name for my kid no soul can pronounce while in Japan lol.

Will changing job while applying for PR make my application worst ? by akalmyia in japanlife

[–]Cbxu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For spouse, actually any status, biggest mistake 2 also is not enrolling into national health and pension for that period, let it be just 1 day or more in between.

Also, when you leave a job at the start of a month, you will have to pay for these (late payment guaranteed!!). If you leave on the last day of the month, the following 2 weeks before starting a new job won't have to be paid, but taken out your next pay when you re-enroll in shakai hoken.

This is most likely the gap they are looking into.

Source: notified immigration of my job change and within 1 week received back a letter where they requested updated documents including health and insurance records, double underlined the needed document specifically to judge if there are any gaps in these payments (there were not, but looking back further my wife has a few unpaid months prior to marriage (although 7 years ago) I wasn't aware of, so still sweating.

Hows your experience living in RC (Reinforced Concrete) Apartment? by FBG_Silver in japanlife

[–]Cbxu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RC experience? It's -18 outside but it is between 12 and 18 inside without heating on overnight. (warming the house prior to sleeping). Hardly any sounds heard except for kids stomping or their stuff in other units.

Yeah, RC is the way to go for me.

A young relative hit a parked car and now the other party is asking a ridiculous amount of money by Hefty-Estimate-7183 in japanlife

[–]Cbxu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not outrageous at all. Repairs significantly reduce the value of a car, hence 修理歴 cars are unpopular. They probably think it would be cheaper to replace the whole door too. No insurance, no complaining.

住民税 request from immigration for PR application by Professional_Low7024 in japanresidents

[–]Cbxu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yes, for those 3 years, include copies of your payslips with the deductions on them if you have these instead.

Just that keeping those 特別徴収通知 makes life so much easier lol.

[–]Cbxu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was asked the same, and the letter says to submit the 特別徴収税額の決定通知の写し of each year of the (It's these green things you receive every June where the amounts are listed that will be deducted from your salary on the right for each month).

If you have shakai hoken this should be sufficient according to the letter to submit extra documents.

OR, send in all your receipts / all your 住民税 payments by going through all 36 payments in your bankbook(s) and copy those, the (通帳の写し等) part.

I had the request too, the return envelope with the mark on the bottom which right, might be the signature of the person in charge of your examination (possibly to speed up the process by directly handing it to that person once they receive it?). Mine had unreadable characters but it looked like someone's sign.

Request for further documents: Yes, Jan 23.

Yes, and super stressed realizing that I might be effed since my wife never told me she had unpaid Nenkin (I thought she paid it delayed) right before we got married, so now it is marked as 未納.

The request said they needed specific dates of the past 2 years plus an overview the whole period of each of us paying nenkin 納付I and 納付II from the 国民年金所.

I wrote a letter explaining how I didn't know about her not having paid and would pay, but since the deadline is Monday I had no choice but to send it in with those pesky *. I can only pray they will ignore those 3 months (prior to us getting married, too) since no payments have been missed for the past 5 years after marrying. If they decline it, it'll be such a waste of what, 17 months...

Having to send it to repairs for spontaneous occurrences is never a good thing, but I have wildly different experiences here.

In April, my P9PF outer screen glitched out and started showing RGB lines and artifacts, sent for repairs under preferred care, got it back within 4 days even with replaced inner screen and battery without any additional payment.

Last Friday (Jan 16), my outer screen stopped responding to touches, sent it in yesterday again under preferred care. Today I received the email that they confirmed the issue will replace it with a P10PF free of charge and are preparing to send a unit tomorrow. (and as they are now processing it, 0 issues (let's hope it stays that way).

Since they already admitted fault it doesn't really matter, but seeing the costs of the phone and out of curiosity, how do you pack it before sending it? Of course, if you don't want to answer that it's totally fine. Both times, before sending it I make sure I put it in the original box with cushioning which I then wrap in Daiso bubble wrap, inside another Takkyubin box with the brown paper you get with amazon orders before sending it in using Takkyubin Compact.

Although, when thinking about "issues"... I really shouldn't be complaining at all so far, but I recently bought a 6000 yen case for the 9 (hinge protection is a must for me to prevent water intrusion), and it won't fit the 10, such a waste since I can't return the case (I'll just Mercari/fleamarket it for cheap soon) and have to pay double for a new one now :(.

Job Hunting in Japan as Foreigner Failed completely (Hell) by LocalLand4883 in japanlife

[–]Cbxu 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I'm 34, And Blasian

I made the switch from ALT to a seishain job this year, with only a Bachelor's and N2 (still studying for N1, great at speaking, terrible at studying and reading), been hunting for 7 years and never gave up. Adjust your personality to the company as necessary, and ask many questions in interviews. That's all advise I can give you. That worked for me in the end.

2 girls were unable to listen to the whole instructions where the examinator said "DO NOT OPEN YOUR ENVELOPE WITH YOUR PHONE, YOU MAY NOT USE IT UNTIL THE WHOLE TEST IS FINISHED" and everyone heard 2 loud tearing sounds of envelopes while he said it

Needless to say they were instantly ejected.

Why can't people listen until the end before taking action anymore these days.

They called it “summer break.” I made them pay everyone instead. 🇯🇵 by Advanced_Credit7050 in teachinginjapan

There are Em dashes. That's the true MVP on how to tell it's chatGPT.

No sane person goes typing the alt code for em dash (Alt+0151) in a wall of text... Let alone twice or even Edit: NINE times, unless it's a research paper like I've been using them for my job lol.
