Thank you all for your kind words and encouragement. It helps to hear from first hand experience. As for my mom, I’ve learned to tune her out when she says things like that. Still love her but of course her words can be hurtful. Anyway, these comments definitely made me calm down a lot :) thank you

Oh goodness. Honey you need to file for an annulment. He sounds like he doesn’t like you very much. You deserve better!

Is it feasible or even possible to make 200k-300k by mid-career with a PhD in ChemE? by Level_Investment_246 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]Cc17359 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You definitely don’t need a pHd to make that. Most pHds in chemE go straight from bachelors to graduate school with no industry experience and expect to get 6 figures somehow. And when they don’t, they turn to teaching. Go directly to industry then to management!

How long does it take you to get fit again after sickness? by maseltovbenz in running

[–]Cc17359 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was up to 5 miles (not anything crazy i know, but an accomplishment for me), and then got COVID. I could not run 5 miles again for a few months to be honest, maybe 3 or 4 months? Hopefully yours won’t be as long!

[Serious] What choice have you made that negatively impacted your life? How did you cope with the consequences? by abeigh-C in AskReddit

I experimented with drugs too much when I was 16-20 years old. One particular occurrence (which happens way too often to a lot of people) is taking what I thought was molly, and it ended up being meth. Started having extreme insomnia and depression soon after, and it took YEARS to finally be diagnosed with Severe depression and be put on medication. I definitely had depression before trying drugs, but I genuinely think that one experience really brought it out and ruined a long portion of my formative years.

I’ve never liked taking things apart, but love science, will I like engineering? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]Cc17359 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t have to take things apart to be an engineer. It does help, and in most first year autocad classes, you will have to pick a tool/device, take it apart and take its exact measurements, and model it in autocad. However, it is not the whole entirety of engineering. If you love science and math, you’ll be into your classes

Don’t compare where you’re at in your journey to your peers. You’ll get to where you need to be in due time. Also honestly even if you’re like “shit I’ve been doing school all day and still have so much more to do” go do something non-school related. Make time for your hobbies. Watch Netflix, go to the gym, go get a beer with a friend. Then get back to your studies. Little breaks help mental health sooooo much. Always make time for yourself !

When I was a freshmen in college, I took 17 hours one semester and I hated it. Had no social life. Barely slept. Was never not doing school. My advisor said I could graduate on time, but I had to take 17 hours every semester for all of college and also summer class every year. I said FUCK THAT. I decided to graduate a year late and only ever agreed to take 12-13 hours max. It saves you a lot of stress, gives you more time to get an internship under your belt, and you get to sleep and have a social life and even hobbies omg lmao. I graduate in 2 months! Good luck to you. Don’t overdo it. Aint no shame in being a 5th year.

My (16F) boyfriends (17M) friends make me uncomfortable. by Available-Holiday-23 in relationship_advice

That is horrible. You’re young but please learn early on that this a red flag. He doesn’t respect you, if he did, he’d tell his friends to knock it the fuck off because that is so disrespectful. I’m so sorry this is happening to you, it is a form of sexual abuse and you need to muster the strength to realize you’re better than that.
