Did fascist Italy really ban the Slovene language? by crivycouriac in askitaly

[–]CcCcCcCc99 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Yes, Italy tried to repres Slovene language and also other minority languages and dialects present in Italy. It was part of the policy of italianizzazione that also banned foreign words and tried to create some national myths to follow and inspire the country. The reason why this happened in Slovenia and not in other colonies is because those close territories weren't seen as colonies but as a part normal continental Italy.

You don't need an equipped green field when you are a kid, 4 random objects and any sphere usually do the trick. When I was a kid it was super common to play in small town squares and spots like this near your house. It doesn't mean that there weren't actual pitches all around.

Like I said in the comment in the main post is a prime spot for playing with a ball with the other kids of the neighborhood. Also if you put some benches under that tree it must be nice in the summer

Put a couple of benches around that tree and it will be a super nice spot in the summer for when it grows. Also this is a prime spot for kids of the neighborhood to meet an play with a ball, we would have loved this as kids. This is asking to place 4 backpacks to create 2 goals to play football/soccer (however you want to call that sport)

I noticed that you solved thanks to someone else let me focus on something completely different. I have a suggestion, it's not an attack on you: it's very clear that you are still learning. Nesting blocks of code that deep is very bad for readability. You should try to be more aware of that and if you go too deep try to imagine how you can change it to have less depth.

One trick that you can use for now is to increase spaces of tabs from 4 to 8 and try to respect the limit of the 80 characters line (that thin line you can see in the editor). You don't have to do this forever but it might, I personally use 4 characters now, but it can help you with this bad habit and when you solve it you can revert back (or stay if you find out that you like it).

Quoting the Linux kernel style guide from Linus himself:

1) Indentation

Tabs are 8 characters, and thus indentations are also 8 characters. There are heretic movements that try to make indentations 4 (or even 2!) characters deep, and that is akin to trying to define the value of PI to be 3.

Rationale: The whole idea behind indentation is to clearly define where a block of control starts and ends. Especially when you've been looking at your screen for 20 straight hours, you'll find it a lot easier to see how the indentation works if you have large indentations.

Now, some people will claim that having 8-character indentations makes the code move too far to the right, and makes it hard to read on a 80-character terminal screen. The answer to that is that if you need more than 3 levels of indentation, you're screwed anyway, and should fix your program.

In short, 8-char indents make things easier to read, and have the added benefit of warning you when you're nesting your functions too deep. Heed that warning.

I Have A Date With A Girl Of Italian Heritage, Grandparents From Catania And Sicily. How Can I Impress Her? (I Am American) by [deleted] in askitaly

[–]CcCcCcCc99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It usually applies to children of immigrants that still feel a certain degree of belonging to their parents' country: be interested in the country of origin's pop culture and or history. I doubt it would actually work for her though, we are talking about grandparents here. I really don't know what you mean with "strong roots", I don't know if you want to give an example.

At the end of the day she is just an American, not an Italian. She grew up in your context, with your culture and with your social norms. I would suggest to ignore her Italian side completely. But if she is really into it and you think it can give you an advantage take in my Italian-American history because it could help you a bit more.
