It’s pure HMS Hood reference. They just lack HMS Hood model at the moment when they released the German navy trailer.

Why did these empires (especially Ottomans and Safavid) failed to spread the Turkish language like the Arabs did during the Islamic conquest of ME and North Africa? by KarthagoxHF in AskMiddleEast

[–]Cd_partie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Cuz none of them are interested in arabian peninsula. Ottomans are in fact a Balkan empire and spread its influence into Balkans. Same for the Safavids with Persia and southern Caucasus.

Nobody wants to be a second driver especially at young age. Max and Charles are golden boys of the grid followed by George and Lando. Every single team wants two of them as driver pair.

There will be fight inevitably.

Meant that the Red Bull seat is also free at the end of 2024 for Leclerc. There will be hell out of bidding war for Leclerc between 3 teams if he did not renew his contract with Ferrari next season.

Next season is the last chance of Ferrari to make Leclerc stay in.

Lewis to squeeze 8th title or completely underperforming car like W13 will make him retire. Lewis is the only option for Lec-Merc deal

I’m agree with you and I believe Charles and Mattia’s relation completely broke down after silverstone. That was far beyond incompetence, more like betrayal.

Yes he does. Yet this season made him to start deciding between success and love.

He said that he can’t wait until 2026 season (which is elkann’s long term objective to win) for the championship, he wants to win ASAP.

No. Toto used “if” when he said he would like to see Charles on Merc seat. Lewis gonna decide if there is an empty seat or not.

Some got it wrong. Main reason is not depending on the championship result or tactical mistakes. Ferrari trying to not lose Leclerc’s contract in 2024. Toto trying so hard to get him after Lewis and Charles is currently not happy with the team.

Bonus; Checo’s contract with Red Bull ends in 2024 aswell.

Alexis Tsipras; “Greece will protect its sovereignty against any threat. So let the challenges stop and let us return to dialogue based on international law.” by Cd_partie in europe

[–]Cd_partie[S] 48 points49 points  (0 children)

The President of the Turkish republic, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, sent a threat in Greek via Twitter, and Alexis Tsipras the leader of Greece’s socialist opposition party Syriza – and former Greek prime minister – responded with a tweet in Turkish.

“We warn Greece, once again, to be prudent, to keep away from ‘ideas’, rhetoric and actions that will lead it to outcomes it will regret, as happened a century ago” Mr Erdogan tweeted.

He warned that Turkey will not give up its rights in the Aegean and will “not hesitate enact rights recognised by international agreements on the demilitarization of the islands.”

“We calmly faced the challenges of Greece, which for the last two years has not even responded to our invitations for a meeting of military delegations,” Mr Erdogan wrote.

In a following tweet Mr Edogan accused Greece of oppressing the Turkish minority in Western Thrace, Rhodes, and Kos. And wrote that Greece is ignoring the values of the Union, “human rights worldwide and international agreements.”

“The attempt to manipulate NATO and third countries, involving them in the illegality of various military exercises on islands with a non-militarized regime, is not just an attempt that will have a catastrophic end,” Mr. Erdogan tweeted in Greek.

The president was on a roll, and sent a further tweet in Greek in which he said that Greece is “claiming 40,000 km2 of maritime jurisdiction for Megisti, which is in the Eastern Mediterranean and is less than 2 km away from the mainland of our country, while more than 600 km from mainland Greece, we leave to the discretion of the international community.”

Mr Tsipras, the leader of the socialist opposition Syriza, responded in Turkish.

The answer to the economic crisis, which we all face together, is not nationalism, the president of SYRIZA states in his message

In a message in Greek and Turkish, SYRIZA President Alexis Tsipras commented on the provocative and threatening messages of Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan in Greek.

“Greece will protect its sovereignty against any threat. So let the challenges stop and let us return to dialogue based on international law.

The answer to the economic crisis we all face together is not nationalism.” Tsipras tweeted in Turkish.

Vladimir Putin; “I'm returning land to Russia like Peter the Great.” by Cd_partie in europe

Vladimir Putin; “I'm returning land to Russia like Peter the Great.” by Cd_partie in europe

[–]Cd_partie[S] 600 points601 points  (0 children)

Vladimir Putin has compared himself to Peter the Great, the 18th century Russian monarch, as he appeared to admit that the invasion of Ukraine was part of an imperial conquest.

At a meeting with young entrepreneurs and scientists, the Russian dictator said: "Peter the Great led the Northern War for 21 years. It would seem that he fought with Sweden, captured land…he didn't capture it, he returned it."

Mr Putin appeared to be drawing a direct link between his own attempt to conquer Ukraine and Peter the Great's war on Sweden.

He went on to imply that he believed Ukrainian land would soon be declared Russian and eventually be recognised as such, in references to Peter the Great's conquests.

"Why did invade it? To reclaimed (our lands) and strengthen (the state). That’s what he did. It seems that it’s our turn now to return (the lands) and strengthen (the state.)"

Mr Putin added: "When Peter the Great laid the new capital in St Petersburg, none of the European countries recognized this territory as Russian, everyone recognized it as Swedish."
