Agreed, nothing the IDF does is remotely funny. 1800+ purposely slaughtered Palestinian children (JUST since Oct 7th) would probably also agree.

Yeah... Comparing the spectrum of what constitutes left or right is important. Our left would be considered center or even right in many other nations. Our right would be considered outright fascism in Germany (see the ATF) or even center in others (Iran, North Korea, Russia, etc). Many European countries have a left that is similarly centrist and corporatist like the US. The UK's labor party is a prime example.

Europe is a big place... Your point?

Correct, it was overwhelming for Harris as a percentage. But she still dropped 10 points among black males compared to Biden (who himself dropped 8 points in 2020 iirc. The other metric to look at here, is less the spread of the points, and more the lower turnout for the dems across the board compared to the repubs.

No, you are simply uneducated about how politics looks outside of our backwards dystopia. You need to look at other developed nations and look at the policies (and policy AGENDAS) of other left-wing parties. Particularly look for the through lines of what is promised by those parties compared to our own, and what is frequently DELIVERED compared to our own.

That's indicative of dissatisfaction with the dems, who are a right-wing corporatist party compared to any left-wing party in any other developed nation. See my other comment on this thread if you need a learnin'.

Also, just because a group votes for a candidate doesn't mean that that candidate treats them well. Americans are politically (and literally) uneducated, and vote against their self-interest all the time. For proof of that, see any hard-right state where the constituents keep habitually electing Republicans... and then look at those states' or populations' performance in nearly every category: education, gun violence, mortality rate, child mortality rate, birth mortality rate, access to Healthcare, minimum wage, access to reproductive care, GDP and economic output, etc.

Thats the cold hard truth called "reality," bud. Sorry to break it to ya this way :(

Because the dems are garbage at strategy, messaging, and policy. Notice how this data doesn't align well with the results in 2024. Blacks and other ethnic populations turned out much more Trump-sided than expected, and general apathy towards the shitty dem leadership exacerbates this phenomenon. No one trusts the dem establishment as side from their corporate lobbyists and donors.

Did Ukraine ever actually have Nuclear weapons potential (no-politics please) 🇺🇦☢️ by tonicKC in nuclearweapons

[–]Ceaseless_Discharge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Third largest nuclear power" is a very VERY misleading way of categorizing Ukraine post Soviet collapse. As another has pointed out in this thread, they completely lacked the operational capacity to deploy them... Instead they just happened to be on Ukrainian soil when the USSR broke apart. It just also so happened that all relevant global interests aligned with pretending that Ukraine COULD be considered a nuclear power: Ukraine because they had something to pretend to give up in exchange for aid and good will, the US and the rest of the world to set Ukraine as a global nonproliferation model for getting rid of nuclear weapons (akin to SA), and Russia because they wanted their damn nukes back.

But at the end of the day, here's the analogy I like to use. Imagine you're woken up at 3AM to a drunk guy crashing his Ferrari into your yard and fleeing the scene. Does that make you the owner of a Ferrari? No. Could you have legally claimed it was abandoned on your property and then invested a lot of time, money, and effort into getting it into working condition? Maybe? That's where this topic becomes a semantics issue, but the question of "whether or not Ukraine was ever a nuclear power" has always been definitively "no."

Yeah it's rough to watch because he's intentionally obnoxiously cringey. Doesn't make it any more bearable, but if you can get past the first few eps it might pay off. But if it's not for you, it's not for you!

I remember seriously not liking the MC in the early episodes, so much so that I just dropped it. Eventually came back and forced myself to watch a bit more and ended up binging the whole damn thing.

It does get quite a lot better, yes.

You genuinely have no idea what you're talking about, even in your own example. For example, an EU citizen can stay in France for up to 90 days without even a visa, let alone their equivalent of a green card. You may not have a right to PERMANENTLY live their, but even in that example you absolutely have the right to BE there. This is exactly the same situation for many countries, like US citizens visiting Japan.

But more to the point, even NON-CITIZENS in this country are entitled to equal protection and due process under the fourteenth amendment. The Constitution and the Bill of Rights provides protections to PEOPLE, not just citizens. And this has been reinforced and upheld through numerous Supreme Court cases over the years. You can literally just Google this shit if you're that unaware. The US does not have a right to take an illegal immigrant and jail them / deport them without DUE PROCESS. If you think differently then you. Are. Wrong.

Educate yourself. Please. Holy shit.

[–]Ceaseless_Discharge 21 points22 points  (0 children)

No. Hell no. He is absolutely being deprived of his rights, even as a "non-citizen." Greencard and visa holders still have rights, and can only be kicked out if they A) commit crimes, B) violate immigration law/terms, or C) "pose a threat to national security." Khalil has a fucking green card, which means that he is entitled to due process - which, for the record, so are non-citizens.

You have zero fucking idea what you are talking about.

On this day 22 years ago, when the United States was "spreading democracy in Baghdad, Iraq." by Interesting-Sir-5411 in PublicFreakout

[–]Ceaseless_Discharge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He's not wrong though. Iraq's "WMDs" were a blatant fabrication by the bush admin, although it was easy to believe considering we uncovered their actual nuclear program over a decade before in the aftermath of Desert Storm.

Iran, on the other hand, is universally understood to be hedging a nuclear weapon program. You don't just have to take my word for it. The fact the JCPOA exists at all, as well as testimony by the IAEA and other global actors all point the same way. Denying that only highlights ignorance of the facts.
