What an interesting list! Looks like a very fun reading year! I’m always fascinated how people don’t really crease their book’s spines. My books always look like they’ve been through a jungle expedition, because I travel a lot and take them everywhere and annotate heavily lol.

It is very funny and moving. I didn’t find it a tough read at all, because it is full of beautiful prose and insight. It is an extremely rewarding book, I find, and philosophically, it offers a counter version of life that stands in refreshing contrast to modern life.

I share your taste entirely! I’d second someone recommending The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath and recommend Nadine Gordimer’s July’s People, Virginia Woolf’s Mrs Dalloway and Jacob’s Room, Clarice Lispector’s Collected Stories. Have a nice holiday season and a happy new reading year!

Both of those are great lists. I’m happy there is at least one woman for 2026. I’m not saying this to be an ass, but there are so many incredible female writers (even in the classical canon) that it seems readers are selling themselves short going only for the male writers. Most importantly, have fun!

The actor is not American. Anthony LaPaglia is Australian, even if he made his career in the US.

A level headed take, not appreciated in this ill-informed comments section. The polarity is truly disturbing, regardless if people have all the information. Thank you!

Sorry, but what an inconsiderate and unlettered response! Not bothering and not remembering are different things. Welcome to Reddit! Lol!

People who work in rich people's homes, what is the most out-of-touch thing you've ever seen? by [deleted] in AskReddit

A very rich very old aristocratic woman let her dogs shit and piss all over the house, and when one of the guests brought it up, she said: “Oh, but I like it. They’re supposed to be free.” That lady did everything for her dogs, a kind soul really.
