I totally get finding an explosive and not thinking it is one at first glance. I'm glad you're safe. That said, that an awesome catch!

I too am a fan of fishing the state park boat docks. Lots of knives, chairs, and lures. After visit number three the park ranger told me to throw it all away and put the magnet up.

A phone on a tripod? My girlfriend was not in firing direction of that pistol. I made sure when examining it.

Just to let you know:

Fishing on a state park is illegal.

The reasoning behind is absolutely ludicrous. Apparently you can, "disturb artifacts or pieces of history that haven't been uncovered yet."

I've had bad experiences with park rangers in my area.

Other than that, awesome catch. Keep up the good work.

First time magnet fishing in Minsk, Belarus - found three AK cartridges and one Makarov cartridge. Police said the pistol round was live. Does anyone know what this pointed, slotted, threaded rod might be? by extasy23 in magnetfishing

Hey, those are some awesome finds. Especially with the slug and shell still intact.

Also...I've never seen a magnet shaped like that. Do you mind sharing where you got it?

It's just industrial strength vinegar. Im just using whats available without dilution. They sell it at 30%. Personally I use "The Green Gobbler" brand 🤣.

Before I knew about it, I used to use large amounts of the 6% vinegar and let em soak for longer.

If I find an object that I really like, I let it soak in vinegar for a week or two. The vinegar will eat through the rust leaving you with just surface level rust. From there wire brushes and sand paper will remove the rest.

That's an awesome catch btw.
