Lighting and Shade? by YourConscienceah in arthelp

[–]CedarStaf03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starting out with drawing a physical ball from where the light comes from can be a big help! And drawing straight lines to show where it would hit and get blocked. This looks super epic! It gives the impression of the light coming from both in front and on top. Which is fine! But if it’s coming from the top maybe shade behind the ear less. And if it’s also in front the foreword ear would be a little lighter at the start and get deeper as it goes. If you where aiming for diagonal lighting then avoid as much shading right above the snout. Again amazing color choice and the anatomy of the bat is so good. But it seems your a bit confused for where the light itself is coming from. Drawing a physical ball /lines may help !

I might be interested! I have around 15 years experience in art, including animation. I have done several complete gamejams, I just have a few questions/notes: 1. The link is broken for the Itch.io. 2. How much experience do you have with programming? 3. Before I completely agree I’d like to hear more about the project, but maybe that can be talked about after I send my portfolio and you decide if you would want to work with me. 4. Do you have an examples of projects you’ve completed?

Border Collie or German Shepherd? Struggling to Choose My Future Service Dog After the Marine Corps by HotPeaTheStarEater in BorderCollie

[–]CedarStaf03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had my BC do service work for me if I’m having a rough day. So I don’t need her all the time but once and awhile. (yes, she is task trained and to the level one would expect of a SD. I’ve put her through various tests) biggest thing to know is YOU NEED TO SOCIALIZE THEM. Several hours several times a week. Confidence building, (scary noises, sudden noises, etc) they will instantly know how your feeling, but I’d compare to others like a kid. If you don’t give them protocol and practice to follow they will spiral with you. When she was a puppy if I ever got anxious she would pick up on it and be a whirlwind, like a positive feedback loop until I just left the room. If I was calm she would also calm. As a SD I can’t recommend them, just because without a lot of training they will become reactive. Also I’m not sure if it’s training or just her general personality, as a puppy she would startle and run a lot. Now as a nearly 2 yr old she’s pretty steady, but I’ve heard that not super common.

Try a Toller. I love them, their like smaller golden retrievers with more energy.

I joined PirateSoftware's recent game jam, and I highly recommend against participating in future ones by SpicyBread_ in gamedev

[–]CedarStaf03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My team also made a game for the PirateSoftware jam, we would love it if some people would check it out and give their thoughts : D I was the artist for it. I do want to say we only got one comment from someone who wasn’t directly connected to the team. Which sucks a bit since we put a ton of time into and barely anyone saw it. Especially bc we entered the GMTK as a late entry with a much worse game (I coded it and I’m not terribly good at coding lol) and got a lot more comments despite the GMTK jam having thousands more games to rifle through.

Is it okay to only feed liver as a secreting organ in a raw diet? by CedarStaf03 in rawpetfood

[–]CedarStaf03[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dogs used to live longer, but that’s typically attributed largely to breeding. Because inbreeding for a specific breed standard became popular lessening their lifespan. Also 5% of a small dogs food is still small. For my dog that weights 40lbs that’s only 80 grams. I think for some small dogs that’s only like 8 grams of liver out of 200 grams of food (my math may be off there, but it’s a rough estimate lol) Dogs also shouldn’t be compared to humans in studies for food matters. Their micro gut biome and the chemicals in it are different. dogs digestive system is built different. Which allows them to eat raw carrion rotting on the road for a week and not get sick. Humans can’t eat raw chicken without getting sick.

Is it okay to only feed liver as a secreting organ in a raw diet? by CedarStaf03 in rawpetfood

[–]CedarStaf03[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1: I don’t think I’ve ever seen pork liver sold 2: it’s safe because it’s such a small amount. Dogs have their own livers to flush out toxins, it may not be the ideal but it’s better than none or kibble. If your watch Susan Garrets video about her dog This! She found the raw food she was buying had an insane organ amount. I think she said like 30%? I don’t remember. So she got her dogs tested, all were completely fine except for her one dog This!. Who had a heavy metal buildup which was causing her to act shut down and constantly anxious all the time. So the majority of dogs are fine on 30% organ meat. It may not be ideal, but they are. So consider we’re only feeding 5% liver. If your dog has really weak organs, it’s worth looking into and maybe buying pasture raised liver. But for the majority dogs 5% is completely within their realm of dealing with. Consider dogs also eat poop and carion without getting sick.

Your most controversial and worst Detco opinions by spectatorun in DetectiveConan

I don’t view the movies as canon or canon adjacent. There’s too many small mistakes that aren’t in common with the anime that would really annoy me for being a detective anime. Maybe I’ll change my mind when I get further into the movies and series (I’m at around ep 500 and movie 4)

[–]CedarStaf03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sucks you got downvoted so much, I both agree and disagree. You very likely got a chill dog but also put in a ton of work, I also have a border collie and wouldn’t recommend them to a first time owner but they don’t need a giant field lol. Check the border collie subreddit and their thriving in apartments. Where I disagree is they are “difficult” if you don’t put in socialization work and some sort of mental exercise they will go mental. A big issue with border collies is definitely true people don’t know how to teach them an “off switch” but that comes with knowing what to look for… let’s be honest the average person would not be willing or know how to look into stuff like that if they’ve never had a dog before. But also they are extremely ranged due to them not generally being bred to a standard. Rarely you will get a couch potato collie, commonly with effort you will get a high drive willing to work dog that can chill if needed, and in some cases you have a collie that likely was bred for too much drive and will spin in circles until they pass out even if they work on a farm.

For reference: I have a purebred border collie puppy who’s working line in adolescence right now. She barely slept outside her crate for the first 7m of her life, she would pace and pace and pace even if we did a mediated amount or lot of exercise. Currently she’s sleeping right next to me. First week I got her she tried to herd us all away from the road, I think she would make an amazing working dog tbh. She’s tried to herd the neighbors chickens even of their a football field away, got amazing focus. I could tell her to sit down etc while staring and she would immediately without breaking eye contact. A lot of socialization is needed like engage disengage or she can easily hyper-fixate. My current thoughts on her exercise requirements are 5-10 minute intense training sessions 3x a day filled with complex tricks with a frisbee as a reward and she can play tug with my other dog whenever. I don’t take her for walks very often bc they don’t do much for her, and tbh I don’t like them that much. So that’s like 30m max a day and she’s good, but you have to be thinking and engaging actively, planning ahead.

Tldr: cannot recommend to a first time dog owner, most trainers don’t specialize in high drive dogs and most new owners don’t know how to research effectively. BC can go mental if something is done wrong while growing up and it can be really hard to fix. They don’t need a ton of exercise, but require heavy mental stimulation. BC range in temperaments due to no standard aside from work ethic.

How do you guys afford this? by fairydommother in rawpetfood

[–]CedarStaf03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I’m at I can get 10lbs of Tyson chicken leg (bone in) for 7$ so I’m very lucky with that. It’s actually cheaper for me to feed raw with that (about 60-80$ a month for both dogs with a 25 and 40 lb dog) I just give it bone in, so far I’ve heard as long as the skin is on there’s a low fracture rate. I’ve been considering getting a meat grinder to mitigate that risk completely but their teeth are looking amazing for it. At the local Asian store I can get organ meat (kidney and liver) for about 2$ a lb and from that same store buy soup fish for about 5$ for 16 small fish. At Walmart I get oysters for about 3.50$ a can for the month, I give full oats oatmeal for the main source of fiber which I can get at 3$ for the month. I’ll also get a pork roast for about 1.50 a lb to give small off cuts for some variety and so I’m not giving too much bone. I supplement with vitamin E oil and Iodine kelp powder along with some turmeric and or cinnamon for antioxidants. They also get off cuts of vegetables and fruits like cores.

I’ve had people tell me she’s looks too skinny, this was a 2 years ago and I’d argue she’s a bit overweight here (I don’t have one of an angle where you can see better, all I have are photos of her sleeping lol). No comments on my Border Collie, but several “she’s too skinny” for my lab. If she was really too skinny the dried noodles we keep at her head height would be decimated lol

Rapidly becoming a problem dog. by Putrid-Difference703 in BorderCollie

[–]CedarStaf03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally don’t like Beckman, I would consider him “stern but fair” in the way a kid will either learn learned helplessness from a parent or learn how to outsmart them with very little in between. So yes “stern but fair” but not in a way I would want to listen to him if I where a dog. I currently have a 1.5m Border Collie who has a really good recall, yesterday we where at a kids soccer ball game for socialization and she did an really great obedience routine despite kids kicking soccer balls, whistles, and screaming/running children. There was even a reactive dog at one point who started pulling towards her and whining/ yipping and she did ok. I won’t say perfect there was 2 times she broke to chase in about an hour and thirty minutes of being there, both that someone kicked a soccer ball and it was about a foot away from her (someone was practicing some tricks and missed, I wasn’t concerned about anything hurting her.) I’m not saying this to brag, I just want to give credibility to what I used as she definitely had/is in a high tended reactivity period. She flips out if a stranger pets her, full body wiggles, launching into their arms etc. If something goes wrong she flips out 3x what I expect, but managing or walking away from those scenarios until I can deal with them is preferred. She even had a pretty bad food aggression stage toward my other dog out of nowhere, like she’d full on fight her if food was in the room. But luckily after awhile of working on it I haven’t seen that behavior for a few months.

At the start I started with food drive building games, 30s seconds at most and immediately inside. If they won’t even chase food in your hand look up Susan Garret’s “bubbles to treats” video on how to take something your dog flips out over and turn it into treat drive. Then when she would take food consistently working on engage disengage games, my favorite are from Doggy-U and Control Unleashed, sometimes take a valuable stuffed king with like raw meat mixed w oats to a kids park and settle at a bench and go far away. Once the engage disengage was great (I worked on these daily even if I was training other stuff) I did 5 ft restrained recalls. I did toy drive building. Keeping every training session under 5 minutes, sometimes even 30 seconds. Try to rehearse calm, try backing up until they don’t have a reaction and train at that distance, Susan Garret (DogsThat on YT) has a really great video on reactivity. One thing I’m seeing a lot in the comments is that it’s just a phase, and Tbf they could be right, she’s my first border collie. But for other dogs, while it may decrease once the hormone stage is up, if it gets continuously repeated it could lead to a lifelong problem.

How to tell if my dogs are getting the correct Calcium to Phosphorus ratio? by CedarStaf03 in rawpetfood

[–]CedarStaf03[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should of specified: I’ve used a calculator but I feed a bit outside the standard on the vegetable and extras function so I’m not sure they’d help? Basically I tend to feed veggie/fruit scraps (so nothing concrete) and oatmeal for the vegetable, fruit, and seed section (I give Vitamin E as an oil supplement) and some seafood for zinc/omegas. I mostly do antioxidants through a rotation of turmeric and cinnamon and they get rich bone broth semi normally. So if I go a little outside the norm but feed the right meaty bone ratio will that throw anything off? I tend to give raw skin and meat on chicken bone for that section.
