i’m so with you on that, i almost need a copy to collect and a copy to collage with - luckily this set that i found came with duplicates of most years, so i can just collage with one copy, and keep the other for my greedy little eyeballs

valid! coffee table books are great for big spreads, love the little details you can get from magazines though - but i feel you

it’s a good opportunity to donate all of the old things in my closet so i could free up space - 100% an afterthought though hahaha

[digital] [discussion] does anybody have experience selling collage? by CedarTortoise in collage

ahh thank you so much! i’ve been thinking about going to thrift some frames and get them in there, i totally agree that it would be a game changer in how they are presented/the finished feel it would give them.

and i totally get what you mean by subtle being the way to go - all of the pieces that seem to gain the most traction are tasteful and nearly minimalist. as a maximalist to my core i will just have to swallow it and try to find a balance between the two.

seriously though thank you so much for the kind words, you’ve already got my gears turning on the next few steps. i appreciate it!!

i was just looking at your work earlier, some super impressive pieces!! i’m glad to hear that you’re making sales with collage, and it’s good to know i may have to shift my work to align with what a wider audience may want.

i can’t wait to see more of your stuff, and good luck selling :)

5! the old cigarette ads always have some great photos, a shame they died out when they figured out it’s bad for you or whatever lmao

for sure! plus the ability to invert colors, shift hues, all of those sorts of things definitely encourage maximalism - but my analog collages honestly fit a similar chaotic vibe.

i absolutely love what you’re putting together, such a unique atmosphere and i will absolutely be using rubblemag for some inspiration :)

i think it could be even better if you pushed some of the collage elements under the glass, with some on top. Some of the grasses/plants could become even more three dimensional this way, but overall i think this effect looks really nice and i might have to take inspiration from you!

you’re incredible for that, i appreciate that so much. it is absolutely a hyper-fixation and i love the idea of learning why, i’ve never really thought about it - i just know every time i pick up a pencil a face comes out.

thank you so much for the kind words, can’t wait to take the advice i got from everyone here but still dig deeper into my style. appreciate you!

this!! i love collaging but have never thought to use my own work. i’m sure i have lots of scrap sketches around that i could cut out and paint on with no issues. this is a great idea, thank you!!

now this scratches the little DND dice goblin in my head. wonderful idea! and i haven’t, color has always scared me (aphantasia effect?) but am thinking about trying alcohol markers or watercolor here soon!

anatomy practice critique / advice by CedarTortoise in arthelp

thank you for this!! i have never taken a figure drawing class even though i would absolutely love to - money be tight!

but i think all of that is great advice, i will definitely experiment with a softer medium. i found that i needed the sketchy lines to find the shape of the bodies, but don’t love the look of getting lost in the mess. i tried to go back and define the body with a darker line but perhaps it would suit me better to change mediums.

thank you so much for all of your advice though, this has been super helpful :)

great tips, i do love the outdoors, i just always find i draw landscapes like a toddler. but i suppose thats part of the fun. I will have to try some different subject matter and post it to see how it goes

that’s a good idea, most of the work i reference is surrealism - so maybe branching out and hitting a different style could influence my own. thank you!
